Thasaded Nong Khai: The Riverside Gateway You Shouldn't Miss

Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I will take you to visitThasadedone of the important landmarks of Nong Khai Province, which is not just an ordinary Mekong River viewpoint but also a gateway to a charming and warm riverside life experience that impressed me deeply as a traveler.

If you have followed my stories before, you would know that Nong Khai is not only famous for the nationwide Phaya Naga Fireball Festival but also has perfectly connected tourist attractions including Wat Pho Chai with the sacred Luang Pho Phra Sai statue,(Wat Pho Chai)Sala Kaew Ku filled with art and Dharma, and the peaceful riverside stupa, ending at Thasaded, a meeting place for locals and travelers who truly enjoy the Mekong riverside lifestyle.

Thasaded Market Atmosphere: The Riverside Colors Everyone Must Experience

I arrived at Thasaded in the evening, which is the time when this riverside market starts to get lively. Various shops begin setting up tables selling fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, local food, and souvenirs that fully reflect the lifestyle of Nong Khai people. Walking through the stalls, you can smell the fragrant Vietnamese food blending harmoniously, as Nong Khai also has a large Vietnamese community.

For food lovers, I recommend trying the Nam Neaung at the famous restaurantDaeng Nam Neungwhich is not far from Thasaded. I didn’t miss the chance to taste authentic Vietnamese cuisine here. The freshness and cleanliness of the ingredients and the meticulous food preparation made me enjoy a truly delicious and worry-free meal.

Strolling Along the Mekong Riverside: Peace Blended with Daily Life

After tasting food and shopping for souvenirs, I chose to walk along the Mekong River at Thasaded. The cool breeze, small boats passing by including fishing boats and tourist boats crossing to Vientiane, Laos not far away, create a pleasant atmosphere. I enjoy watching locals sitting, chatting, or fishing in the evening here. It’s a simple yet warm scene.

Thasaded is not just a ferry pier but also a meeting point where tourists and locals gather to exchange stories and engage in various activities by the Mekong River, an important river that has nurtured the lives of Nong Khai people for a long time.

Travel Routes and Connections to Nearby Attractions

Getting to Thasaded is very convenient for travelers visiting Nong Khai because it is located not far from the city center and other important places in the province. One of the travel routes I often recommend is touring around Nong Khai city includingWat Pho ChaiSala Kaew Ku(Wat Khaek)and the riverside stupa before ending at Thasaded, giving a comprehensive view of the harmonious blend of culture and nature.

Additionally, if you have time and want a change of scenery, I recommend visitingSangkhom Districtwhich is nearby. It is another Mekong River viewpoint with beautiful and peaceful sand dunes, perfect for relaxing and capturing unique natural scenery.

Personal Experience at Thasaded: Feelings I Want to Share

The first time I arrived at Thasaded, I immediately felt that this place is unlike typical commercial tourist spots. It feels like a second home for the people of Nong Khai. Here, you see real, unembellished life: elderly people sitting together, children playing by the river, and vendors selling goods with friendly smiles.

I spent time listening to the sound of the Mekong River hitting the shore, sipping coffee from a roadside shop, and chatting with locals who were happy to share stories about their lives and the history of Thasaded. This made me feel that this trip was not just sightseeing but also learning about the lifestyle and culture of the people living by the Mekong River.
