Travel Phetchabun with mr.hotsia: A mountain town full of stories and flavors
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Phetchabun province, a city many know for its green mountain views and cool, pleasant weather. This time, I intended to take friends deeper into the atmosphere of Phetchabun town itself, which many might overlook as they usually focus on Khao Kho, Phu Thap Boek, or other distant natural attractions.
Starting the journey from Bangkok, I chose the route passing Saraburi, turning onto Highway 21, passing Chai Badan and Si Thep districts before arriving at Phetchabun city. The distance is about 346 kilometers and takes around 5 hours. It was tiring but full of excitement because I knew there was much more to discover here.
The simplicity of Phetchabun city and the lifestyle of its people
Upon arriving in Phetchabun city, the first thing I felt was the calmness and warmth of the community here. It’s not as hectic as big cities but has its own lively character. I strolled through the fresh market and stopped to taste local food at Jae Som Noodle Shop, famous for its rich broth and chewy noodles. It’s one of the must-try spots I recommend.Jae Som Noodles, PhetchabunA flavor you can only find here
Additionally, the city has a central pond called “Sa Kaeo” where locals relax and socialize in the evenings. I stopped to sit and enjoy the atmosphere, listening to birdsong and feeling the cool breeze, which made me feel incredibly relaxed.
Delicious food and atmosphere you must try
For food lovers like me, the cuisine here is another charm not to be missed. I was recommended by P'Moo from the fan page “Tiew Sa Jai” to try the spicy stir-fried catfish at Puang Phet restaurant, located behind Khao Wang, a central area of Phetchabun city.Puang Phet’s Spicy Stir-Fried CatfishMade with Karen chili that has a unique fiery heat, the flavor is intensely bold that even I had to admit defeat, but it was so delicious I couldn’t stop eating. Their spicy stir-fry is unlike any other, with a rich and distinctive taste. I recommend pairing it with a hot plate of steamed rice for the ultimate delight.
Besides the spicy stir-fry, the Mae Yai curry rice restaurant I visited is also a must-try.Mr.hotsia takes Chanchai to eat Mae Yai's curry rice, PhetchabunIt offers a homestyle flavor filled with deliciousness and the essence of authentic Thai food, making me feel like I was eating at home again.
Temples and the faith of Phetchabun people
Phetchabun city is not only known for nature and food but also for its important and beautiful temples. I had the chance to visit the temple housing the world's largest Phra Maha Thammaracha Buddha statue, standing tall as a symbol of the city. Seeing the massive Buddha and the surrounding atmosphere made me feel the deep faith and connection of the locals to their religion.
Morning market and the preserved traditional lifestyle
One of my memorable experiences was walking through the morning market in Phetchabun city. The market isn’t as bustling as in big cities but is full of life and fresh local food. I found that people here still live simply but happily with what they have. This morning market reminded me of the morning market in Phetchaburi that I had visited before.Visit Wat Mahathat and walk the morning market in PhetchaburiBoth share a warm atmosphere and the kindness of the people.
Connecting with the overall identity of Phetchabun province
When talking about Phetchabun, many think of popular natural attractions like Khao Kho, Phu Thap Boek, or the Hmong village in Ban Khek Noi. But I want you to look deeper into Phetchabun city, which is full of small-town charm, interesting stories, and distinctive food flavors.Travel Phetchabun (Phetchabun City)Here you’ll find temples, fresh markets, local lifestyles, and the friendliness of the locals that made me want to return again.
