Spicy Stir-Fried Catfish at Puangphet Restaurant, Phetchaburi Province: A fiery flavor you must try

I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to visit Phetchaburi, a province rich in stories and culture to explore, along with a special dish I was eager to taste, which isSpicy Stir-Fried Catfishfrom Puangphet, a long-established restaurant located behind Khao Wang, near the Royal Diamond Hotel, which is one of the hotels I recommend for staying when visiting Phetchaburi.

The atmosphere at Puangphet is simple but warm, like a home-style restaurant where locals frequently visit. I had heard for a long time that the spicy stir-fried catfish here is unlike anywhere else because they use authentic Karen chili peppers that deliver a juicy, intense heat and a chili color different from other places — a fresh green color, not the bright red I have encountered before.

When the spicy stir-fried catfish was served, the aroma of fresh spices and herbs combined with the sharp heat of Karen chili peppers made me eager to try the first bite. The flavor was intensely satisfying like never before — spicy but balanced, fragrant with kaffir lime leaves and basil. I must say, if you think you can handle spicy food, try ordering this dish at Puangphet because some people have to admit defeat to its heat. Even I, who enjoy spicy food, had to honestly admit it was truly spicy.

Besides the spicy stir-fried catfish, I also ordered another must-try dish:Hoi Joor crab spring rolls that are crispy on the outside and soft inside, sweet and rich in flavor. Eating hoi jo together with spicy stir-fried catfish and hot steamed rice is the perfect set. When the spicy heat of the stir-fry made my face flush and eyes water, the hoi jo helped balance the flavors wonderfully.

For this trip, I want to thank P'Moo from the fan pageTiew Sa Chaiwho, upon learning I was in Phetchaburi, drove me to try this restaurant and said it was a famous place with truly delicious food as rumored. For friends interested in fully experiencing Phetchaburi’s atmosphere, I recommend walking around Wat Mahathat, locally known as “Wat Luang,” which is not far from this restaurant.Read more herebecause it allows us to experience the lifestyle and deep history before tasting delicious food.

Getting to Puangphet Restaurant is very convenient as it is near Khao Wang. You can also stay at the Royal Diamond Hotel, which I rate as the best accommodation in downtown Phetchaburi. After enjoying the spicy stir-fried catfish, I relaxed in the comfortable atmosphere of Phetchaburi before continuing my journey.

For those who love in-depth travel and local food, I, mr.hotsia, recommend not missing the spicy stir-fried catfish at Puangphet. This dish is not just ordinary spicy food but the true taste of Phetchaburi. Besides food, Phetchaburi has many attractions such as the morning market and Wat Mahathat that I have visited. Ending with the last photo I took of myself right after eating the spicy stir-fried catfish — teary-eyed and ears ringing — something only those who have tried it would understand what “fiery satisfaction” really means.
