Phetchaburi Travel Information by mr.hotsia
When talking about Phetchaburi province, many people probably think of popular spots like Khao Wang and Cha-am first because these two places are easy to get to and well known. But for mr.hotsia, who likes to explore beyond typical tourist paths, I want to share a full experience traveling around Phetchaburi province, visiting many districts including Mueang Phetchaburi, Khao Yoi, Nong Ya Plong, Cha-am, Tha Yang, Ban Lat, Ban Laem, and Kaeng Krachan. Each place has much more charm than many expect.
Seaside Atmosphere and Coastal Route at Ban Laem
The spot I most recommend for those wanting to experience Phetchaburi's tranquility is the coastal road along Ban Laem. This road is not crowded with tourists like Cha-am or Hua Hin. The atmosphere here is very peaceful, from Chao Lao Beach (locals simply call it Chao Beach), Puek Tian Beach, Cha-am Beach, all the way to Laem Liao, Laem Phak Bia, Bang Tabun, and Klong Khon, where you can closely observe the fishing community lifestyle. This route is perfect for those who enjoy leisurely drives or cycling to truly enjoy sea views without competing with many tourists.
Accommodations in Phetchaburi City and Cha-am
There are not many accommodations in Phetchaburi city itself. I stayed atKhao Wang Hotelfor 2 nights and Royal Diamond Hotel for 1 night. Khao Wang Hotel offers affordable prices and an old-town atmosphere, while Royal Diamond is newer and more comfortable but roughly twice the price. Both offer WIFI and suit travelers who want convenience without staying right on the beach. For beachfront accommodations in Cha-am, I recommend booking in advance as it is a more popular area.
Morning Market and Wat Mahathat in Phetchaburi City
I really enjoy walking through the morning market in Phetchaburi city, especially nearWat Mahathat or Wat Luangwhich is across from the morning market, separated by the Phetchaburi River. This ancient temple has a beautiful five-pronged prang and a history spanning over a thousand years. I had the chance to tour the temple and make morning alms offerings. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the locals are kind, helping with directions with genuine Phetchaburi hospitality. This trip made me feel closer to the lifestyle of Phetchaburi city.
Phetchaburi Food That Impressed mr.hotsia
When it comes to food in Phetchaburi, I must say it is a province with a complete and delicious culinary scene, especially curry rice from unnamed shops with outstanding flavors that made me give a thumbs up. You don't have to look for famous long-established restaurants to enjoy great taste. One dish that impressed me the most isStir-fried Spicy Catfish from Puang Phet Restaurantwith a fiery hot flavor from fresh green Karen chili unlike anywhere else. Some people even give up because it's too spicy. The stir-fried spicy catfish here pairs perfectly with hot steamed rice. Also, don't miss the dense and flavorful deep-fried crab meat rolls. This restaurant is located behind Khao Wang and Royal Diamond Hotel. Anyone who loves authentic Phetchaburi cuisine must try it.
Local Lifestyle and Community at Khao Yoi
Another spot I don't want you to miss is visitingthe Lao Song Village at Khao Yoiwhich is a community of the Tai Dam people with a unique culture. Although the traditional homestays have closed, the Lao Song Cultural Center is still open for tourists to learn about and experience the evolving lifestyle. Seeing and talking with the community members reminded me of my trips to Tai Dam villages in Vietnam and Laos, and it made me feel that this place has preserved its identity very well.
Local Restaurants and Village Food at Kaeng Krachan
If you drive through Kaeng Krachan, I recommend stopping for breakfast atKhun Kim's Restauranta simple local eatery with a signature dish of fried pla chala fish cakes, which are chewy and richly flavored. I ordered both with rice and an extra plate. Truly delicious and satisfying. This restaurant offers a village atmosphere and flavors that made me come back many times when passing through Kaeng Krachan.
Summary of My Experience with Phetchaburi from mr.hotsia's Perspective
For me, Phetchaburi is not just a province with main attractions like Khao Wang or Cha-am, but also small corners full of local lifestyles, traditional food, and peaceful seaside atmospheres waiting to be discovered. Traveling here is not just about eating and sleeping but truly immersing in local life and culture. For those who like deep exploration and dislike just following big tours, I recommend experiencing Phetchaburi this way yourself. I guarantee you will fall in love with this province as I have.
