Black Squid, a Hidden Gem in Sattahip: A Delicious Experience You Must Try Yourself

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Sattahip again. This time, I didn't just come to admire the sea view or stroll along the beach, but to follow the trail of a restaurant that many might not yet know in this area. That is “Black Squid,” a hidden restaurant tucked away in a small alley in Bang Sare, a warm fishing community full of the true spirit of local fishermen's way of life.

Sattahip, Chonburi Province, is well known as a seaside town near Bangkok, easy to travel to and full of fresh seafood. It is not far from Pattaya, which I have previously written about in an article.Pattaya NightlifeOr if you want to hear about delicious seaside breakfasts, I recommend reading the articleDelicious Breakfasts in Pattaya at Siam Bayshorewhich will perfectly complement this trip's atmosphere.

The Route to Black Squid – A Hub of Fresh Seafood

This time, I set off from downtown Sattahip heading to Bang Sare village, a fishing community that still preserves its traditional way of life. Black Squid is located in a small alley that, if you don't know it well, you might easily drive past without noticing. It took me several attempts to find this place because there is almost no sign in front of the restaurant. But once I tasted the food, I must say it was “worth every bite.”

The atmosphere of the restaurant is simple and homey, filled with wooden tables. You can smell the sea breeze and fresh squid carefully prepared. Aunt Joy, the kind-hearted owner and head chef, warmly welcomes every customer like close family.

Must-Try Signature Dish – Black Squid with a Unique Flavor

The restaurant's name already suggests that black squid is the main dish. I ordered “Black Squid Stir-Fried with Chili Paste,” using large fresh squid stir-fried with spicy chili paste. The sweetness from the squid and the heat from the chili paste blend perfectly, so delicious that I had to order an extra bowl of rice. Another dish I recommend is “Fried Squid with Garlic,” crispy on the outside, tender inside, fragrant with fried garlic, so fresh that it tastes great even without dipping sauce.

There are also other very fresh seafood dishes such as grilled shrimp, steamed blue crab, or if you want something different, try the “Sour Curry with Barramundi,” which has a balanced sweet and sour taste that pairs well with hot steamed rice.

Fishermen's Way of Life and the Atmosphere of Bang Sare Community

After enjoying the seafood at Black Squid, I took a walk around Bang Sare village. This community still maintains the natural and peaceful lifestyle of traditional fishermen. Many go fishing early in the morning and sell their catch to local restaurants. This charm cannot be found in the large seaside restaurants in Pattaya.

If you want to truly experience the fishermen's way of life, I recommend walking along Bang Sare beach in the morning or watching the popular local beach fishing activity, as I have documented inFishing at Bang Sare Beach videowhich clearly shows the simplicity and happiness of the locals.

Sattahip and the Variety of Seafood in Chonburi

Although Sattahip is not as famous as nearby Pattaya, it offers seafood quality just as fresh. Importantly, prices are affordable and the atmosphere is more friendly. I have written about seafood in Chonburi in the articleTraveling Chonburi, Bang Saen, Pattayawhich is another interesting and convenient part of the province.

If you visit Pattaya and want to change the atmosphere, Black Squid in Sattahip is a great choice. Besides enjoying fresh seafood, you will experience true local tranquility and authenticity.
