When it comes to noodles in Vietnam, many people probably think of bowls costing 40-50 baht or more in big cities like Hanoi or Hoi An. But for me, mr.hotsia, who had the chance to visit Vi Thanh, the capital city of Hau Giang Province in the Mekong Delta, I found noodles for only 12 baht per bowl! Not only are they cheap, but they are also so delicious that I had to come back for several meals.

Vi Thanh is a small city located about 240 kilometers southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. The Kenh Xa No River flows through the city center, and the lifestyle here remains simple and warm. The noodle shop I found in Vi Thanh has a signature dish called dry egg noodles, locally known as "mi kho." The flavor is well-balanced with a fragrant and sweet broth, noodles that are not soggy, and perfectly mixed seasoning. It includes pork slices, Vietnamese pork sausage, and fresh side ingredients. I ate there several times and almost became a regular customer, especially when I stopped by for a hot bowl of noodles at the morning market for just 12 baht. Budget worries were minimal.

The second floor is a food court where I bought black pepper to enhance the flavor of my dry egg noodles, making it even more delicious.

Traveling to Vi Thanh is not as complicated as you might think. I chose to take a bus from Can Tho City, which took about 1 hour. During my 8-night stay in Vi Thanh, I truly experienced the local lifestyle—floating markets, morning markets, and eating noodles in a simple atmosphere that felt like stepping back in time. I remember sitting at a small noodle shop in the morning market where locals brought their grandchildren to enjoy noodles happily. Some came by boat from surrounding villages. It felt very warm and simple.
