Original Hue Vietnam Food: Recommended dishes of Hue city by mr.hotsia

When talking about Vietnam, Hue is often thought of as a UNESCO World Heritage city full of culture and history. But for me, mr.hotsia, Hue is not just about ancient stories or old palaces; it is also the land of authentic Vietnamese flavors that once tried, you will be hooked and want to share.

On my first trip to Hue, I remember the cool and comfortable weather in January made hot dishes likeMi (Vietnamese Noodle Soup)the top choice to warm up perfectly. Unlike Hanoi's Pho or Hoi An's clear noodle soups, Hue's Mi features soft noodles with a rich and flavorful broth. Plus, it’s very affordable at only about 20-30 baht. One bowl is just right to fill you up, but for a big eater like me, two bowls are needed to be truly satisfied.

If you like simplicity but extraordinary taste,Food in Hue citywill not disappoint. There are many curry rice dishes with pork, fish, or chicken options priced around 20 baht. I often use these as my main meals while traveling because they are cheap and taste as comforting as home-cooked food.

For dinner in Hue, I usually take a walk along thePerfume RiverBetween 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, you can see the Perfume River bridge lit up with colorful lights. Locals and tourists gather by the riverside to relax. This lovely atmosphere makes eating hot food even more charming. A dish I recommend isGrilled Button Squidwith its rich flavor and smoky charcoal aroma, served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce at a street-side stall. Eating while enjoying the view is simply delightful.

Another must-try dish I never miss isVietnamese Chicken Biryaniwhich differs slightly from our local biryani by its fragrant Vietnamese spices and tender, juicy chicken. Served with fresh vegetables and the shop’s special dipping sauce, this meal always leaves a great memory whenever I think of Hue.

For those who want to deeply experience authentic Hue cuisine, I recommend visitingDong Ba Marketa shopping and local food tasting spot in Hue. Many vendors here can speak Thai. You can explore fresh ingredients, spices, and Vietnamese desserts similar to Thai sweets, such as tapioca pearls, red beans, and soybeans topped with coconut milk and syrup. The sweet and creamy taste is just right and is a snack I often buy to take back to the hotel.

When it comes to accommodation for travelers like me, I usually choose to stay near the Perfume River because it’s convenient to walk tothe Old Hue Imperial Cityand Dong Ba Market easily. Guesthouses or standard hotels are affordable, around 300 baht per night, with air conditioning, hot water, and strong Wi-Fi. The DMZ Hotel where I stayed is a good option.Read more accommodation tips in Hue hereThank you.

If you have several days in Hue, don’t forget to take a night walk to experience the beautiful atmosphere along the Perfume River.Read more about my night walking experience in HueThe nighttime ambiance creates a romantic and relaxing feeling, perfect for slowly enjoying meals and sipping local beer, which is very cheap at less than 10 baht per glass.

For those who want to see live scenes and atmosphere of eating Hue food, I, mr.hotsia, have shared it through a videooriginal hue vietnam food (Recommended Hue Cuisine)on YouTube as well. Check it out and you’ll feel like you’re eating alongside me.

Overall, Hue is a city that I believe food and Vietnamese culture lovers must not miss. With its unique variety of flavors, affordable food prices, peaceful city atmosphere full of history, every dish here carries its own meaning and story. If you are planning a trip to Vietnam, don’t forget to include Hue, as recommended by me, mr.hotsia, on your list.
