Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang: Beauty and Stories on Cam Ke Mountain near Huế
When talking about Huế in Vietnam, many people probably think of the old palace and the Perfume River flowing through the city. But for me, Mr.Hotsia, the Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang is a must-visit place when coming to Huế because it is not just an ordinary tomb but full of historical significance and artistic works that reflect the identity of Emperor Minh Mang as a great designer and architect.
The Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang is located on Cam Ke Mountain on the west side of the Perfume River, about 12 kilometers from the center of Huế. Traveling from the city center is not difficult, but if you want to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere before heading out, I recommend taking a walk atthe Perfume Riverbank at nightThe atmosphere is cool and comfortable with beautifully colored bridge lights, a perfect energy boost before adventuring to the tomb the next day.
Impressive Stories and Design
The highlight of this tomb is that Emperor Minh Mang personally participated in its design. He was both a visionary designer and architect. Construction began in September 1840 with detailed planning and design. Although he fell ill and passed away before completion, his son Emperor Thieu Tri continued the work until it was completed in 1843.
Walking deeper into the tomb, you will find the actual burial site, which is closed to the public and only opened on the anniversary of the emperor’s death. There is also an old cinema room hidden within the tomb area, designed for royal entertainment at that time. I, Mr.Hotsia, feel that this truly reflects the modernity and subtlety of the design.
