Recommended Restaurants in Hue by mr.hotsia
If you arrive in Hue, the first thing mr.hotsia wants to suggest is to find some great eateries. This city offers not only beautiful scenery or fascinating history but also a culinary charm that impressed me greatly.
I spent several days wandering around Hue, tasting food from various places until I felt this was the authentic Vietnamese flavor, clearly different from Hanoi or Hoi An. My favorite was a small, seemingly ordinary restaurant that gave a comforting feeling with every bite. They always warm the food before serving, a small detail that makes the dishes fresher and more delicious.
Hue is famous for its unique noodle soup using thin rice noodles (Mi) served in a hot bowl. I tried it during the cold January winter. The chilly weather combined with a steaming bowl of noodles was an incredible match. The price was very cheap, not exceeding 30 Thai Baht, which is very worthwhile considering the taste and portion.
Besides noodles, the rice with curry shops in Hue are another option I recommend for Thai travelers who enjoy hot steamed rice with various side dishes. There are many rice and curry shops to choose from, offering pork, chicken, fish, or seafood at only 20 Thai Baht. I could eat like this for days without getting bored because the taste suits my palate and the price is very affordable.
For those who want dessert, Vietnamese sweet shops in Hue are also impressive. Vietnamese desserts in many provinces often resemble Thai sweets, such as those made with flour, sago, red beans, and soybeans, topped with coconut milk and syrup. The sweet and creamy flavor is well balanced. Anyone who loves authentic Thai desserts will definitely not be disappointed.
Atmosphere and Lifestyle by the Perfume River
If you want to experience the nighttime atmosphere in Hue, I recommend taking a stroll along the Perfume River between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The bridge over the river lights up with colorful alternating lights, creating a romantic and lively ambiance.
During this time, you can see young Vietnamese couples sitting by the river. Sometimes vendors bring goods to sell, giving a street market vibe typical of Hue but not too crowded. Across the river, there are also colorful light advertisements reflecting on the water, enhancing the beauty of the view.
If you stay near the Perfume River area, it’s very convenient to walk anywhere, whether to Dong Ba Market or the old Hue Imperial City, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are also small restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a cold beer at a very cheap price, less than 10 Thai Baht per glass. It’s a great way to relax after sightseeing.
Real Dining Experience at Restaurants in Hue
Speaking of restaurants I tried, one that impressed me a lot was a small place near the riverbank with few tourists but excellent taste and very reasonable prices. I remember ordering grilled button squid, a rare dish in other cities. The fresh squid grilled with a smoky charcoal aroma was served with a spicy dipping sauce. I liked it so much I went back several times.
I also tried Vietnamese chicken biryani, which was unique and very tasty. The chicken was well marinated with spices, the fragrant rice was soft and hot, topped with the restaurant’s special sauce, making every bite flavorful and not greasy.
These restaurants may not be luxurious but are full of sincerity and dedication to cooking in the true Hue style. I liked that every time the food was served, they warmed it up first, keeping the taste fresh and enjoyable.
Travel and Accommodation in Hue
For anyone interested in visiting Hue, I recommend planning to stay near the Perfume River area because you can easily walk around the city without relying on cyclo or motorbikes, which sometimes overcharge.Accommodation in HuePrices are not very expensive, starting at only 300 Baht per night for air-conditioned rooms with hot water and strong Wi-Fi suitable for uninterrupted YouTube streaming.
If you like to travel independently, I suggest going toVisit the Old Imperial City of Hueon your own to explore the historical traces and ancient architecture restored after damage during the Vietnam War. I enjoy walking here because you can pass through the back of the palace, giving a feeling of stepping back in time and truly absorbing the atmosphere.
Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

Especially in the evening, walking along the Perfume River with the colorful lights on the bridge makes this city irresistibly charming. If you are planning to visit Vietnam, don’t forget to try authentic Hue cuisine and experience the riverside lifestyle yourself. I guarantee you will fall in love with this small city just like mr.hotsia.
