Hair Wash and Facial Massage in Lai Châu: An Experience mr.hotsia Must Share

When it comes to northern Vietnam travel experiences that I, mr.hotsia, love and highly recommend, besides walking through the morning markets, tasting local food, and exploring the lifestyle of the Lai Châu people,Lai Châu Provincethere is another charm that many might overlook, which is the “hair wash and facial massage” here. I share this from the heart as a genuine traveler.

Lai Châu Province is located in the northwestern border area of Vietnam, where the landscape is filled with high mountains and valleys surrounded by thick mist. I stayed two nights in Lai Châu town, also called Lai Chau, strolling through the fresh market and enjoying the central city lake in the morning before deciding to try the hair wash service at a small, cozy, and peaceful barber shop.

Hair washing here is not just about cleaning but a relaxing massage.

Many might think hair washing is just like anywhere else, but here it’s different. Most of the staff are beautiful women skilled in both hair washing and gentle facial massage. They massage the head, ears, neck, and back, along with a light facial massage that makes you feel so relaxed you almost fall asleep. I, mr.hotsia, felt fully cared for at an unbelievably low price of only 50-70 baht.

Besides the relaxation from the massage, I also practiced Vietnamese with the staff because during the massage they chatted about general topics, including local food and the lifestyle in Lai Châu. This made me feel like a special guest warmly welcomed and allowed me to learn about local culture through friendly conversations.

Lai Châu: A City Worth Visiting and Relaxing

After the hair wash and facial massage, I went for another walk in the atmosphere of Lai Châu city, which perfectly blends old and new. The town is set among mountains and a clear lake, with fresh, cool air even in summer, maintaining about 21 degrees Celsius year-round.Lai Châu Provinceis home to 20 ethnic groups that remarkably preserve their traditional lifestyles and cultures.

I stayed at the hotel “Phuong Thang kinh chao quy khach,” located not far from the morning market and central lake, convenient for walking and finding food at many local restaurants offering both northern Vietnamese and highland ethnic cuisines.Lai Châu Local Cuisineis delicious and diverse, from fragrant chicken biryani to the mellow-flavored nem fang. Even grilled button squid is a must-try dish I recommend.

If you visit Lai Châu, I, mr.hotsia, recommend stepping into a small barber shop. Don’t be surprised if the shop looks small or simple because the service you receive will exceed expectations. Most importantly, the price is very affordable and helps relieve travel fatigue and mountain trekking exhaustion in this province very well.

Besides experiencing authentic Vietnamese massage and self-care, it’s also a great opportunity to chat and exchange culture with locals, which I consider an essential part of my trip that made my Lai Châu journey more meaningful and memorable.

How to Prepare for Visiting Lai Châu

For those planning to visit this province, I recommend preparing clothes suitable for cool weather. However, if you go to the town or lowland areas, it might be slightly hot, so pack accordingly. Also, don’t forget to carry cash for small shops like hair wash and facial massage places, which usually don’t accept credit cards.
