Greyhound Racing in Vung Tau: A New Experience by mr.hotsia in Vietnam

When talking about tourism in Vung Tau, besides the beautiful beaches, fresh seafood, and the coastal city's atmosphere blending classic and modern vibes, this time I, mr.hotsia, want to take you to experience an activity not many know about but truly exciting in Vung Tau — the "Greyhound Racing Track," which is the largest and possibly the only greyhound racing track in Vietnam.

As we know, greyhounds are dogs bred specifically for racing. They are slim, long-legged, and incredibly fast — almost too quick to follow with the naked eye. Standing beside the racing track here in Vung Tau felt like being part of a thrilling competition with a world-class racing atmosphere.

Vung Tau Greyhound Racing Track: A Must-Visit Destination

The greyhound racing track in Vung Tau is located not far from Petro House Hotel, where I stayed and enjoyed a seafood buffet before conveniently walking to the track. (For those interested in dining here, you can read more atSeafood Buffet). The races mainly take place on Fridays and Saturdays, which coincided with my visit. I saw many tourists, both Vietnamese and foreigners, with over a million visitors annually coming to watch and enjoy the races here.

Besides watching the races, the atmosphere at the track offers spectators the chance to place legal and officially authorized bets since 2001. This makes Vung Tau the only city in Vietnam and Southeast Asia with this kind of greyhound racing track. I also tried betting for the first time in my life, won some money, and found it fun and educational with its simple, straightforward betting system.

Why Watch Greyhound Racing in Vung Tau?

If you think about watching greyhound racing worldwide, many might think of tracks in Australia, England, or America. But here in Vung Tau, just 1.5 hours by speedboat from Ho Chi Minh City, there is this extraordinary racing track. The travel is easy and affordable. Anyone planning a trip toBa Ria–Vung Tau Provinceshould not miss it.

Besides witnessing the speed of the greyhounds, experiencing the local weekend atmosphere feels like tasting a new colorful way of life of the Vietnamese people in this coastal province. It’s not just about the sea and seafood but also the fun that truly enriches the travel experience.

The Variety of Vung Tau: More Than Just Greyhound Racing

Vung Tau is not just about greyhound racing. I also tried local dishes and visited local markets in Ba Ria Province nearby, such as the famous fried chicken rice at the night market, which reflects the authentic lifestyle of southern Vietnamese people. (Read more atBa Ria Fried Chicken Rice)
