Vung Tau Morning Market: A Relaxing Morning Experience with the Coastal Local Way of Life

Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I'll take you to explore the Vung Tau morning market, a small local market located in Vung Tau city, Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, a southeastern coastal province of Vietnam that I have visited many times.Ba Ria–Vung Tau ProvinceIt is considered an important gateway to the East Sea, located about 170 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City.

One early morning in December 2013, I woke up early with the intention to stroll around the morning market of this city. After arriving in Vung Tau by bus from Ba Ria, I got off atVung Tau Bus StationI rented a motorbike in the city. The fare to the morning market was no more than 20 Thai Baht, which is very cheap for traveling in a city filled with the scent of the sea and cool morning breeze.

The Vung Tau morning market is not grand or colorful like the big markets I have seen in Vietnam or neighboring countries. Instead, it has the simple charm of daily life where locals buy fresh goods, including vegetables, fruits, and typical local foods such as traditional snacks and fresh seafood from fishing boats that just arrived in the morning.

I walked along the neatly arranged stalls, smelling the aroma of traditional Vietnamese food. Fresh green vegetables were neatly displayed, and small fish were laid on trays of ice looking very fresh. The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of locals bargaining and chatting in the local Vietnamese accent. I felt like I was truly immersing myself in real life, not just a market for tourists.

If you ask me whether the Vung Tau morning market is exciting or special, I must honestly say "not really." This market is like any community market selling daily necessities. If you visit Vung Tau like me and want to experience a local market atmosphere, it’s a good stop. But if you want to see the vibrant fishing life, I recommend visiting the west coast fishing harbor of Vung Tau, where the fishing boats come ashore. That place is livelier and offers a more exciting fisherman’s life.

From the Morning Market to the East Coast Beach

After a short visit to the Vung Tau morning market, I rode my motorbike along the east coast beach of Vung Tau. The beach is long and clean, perfect for those who want to relax or take a morning stroll by the sea breeze. The Vung Tau beach is very beautifulI walked along the beach until I reached my booked accommodation in the city, a small hotel not far from the sea and convenient for traveling to various city spots.

For seafood lovers, I have recommended in other articles that Vung Tau offers a wide selection of fresh seafood. However, the standout places are usually buffet restaurants at large hotels such asPetro House Hotelwhich offers an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet that satisfies seafood lovers like me, mr.hotsia, very much.

Vung Tau Morning Market and the Authentic Local Way of Life

Many might expect the Vung Tau morning market to be grand or have many exotic items, but for me, seeing a market that still preserves the charm of a small community is impressive because it shows the true lifestyle of locals, not just commercial tourism.

If you want to try authentic Vietnamese food at this market, I recommend looking for simple items like local snacks or fresh fruits commonly sold here. Or if you want a real local breakfast experience, try asking for dishes made from fish or fresh seafood from the nearby sea.
