Food and Dining in Thái Nguyên Province: Flavors that Mr.Hotsia Must Taste Again
Thái Nguyên Province is located in the northeastern region of Vietnam. It is a place I, Mr.Hotsia, had the chance to visit personally. Besides the natural beauty and cultural diversity, the food here is a key charm that deeply impressed me.
Thái Nguyên is a province with over a million residents, known as a prominent educational center and famous for tea production, considered the best tea in Vietnam. Today, I will take you deeper into the local food stories that I truly tasted from the streets and restaurants in this city.
Start the Day at Thái Nguyên Morning Market
If you want to experience the morning lifestyle of Thái Nguyên locals, I recommend taking a stroll atthe morning marketof this city. The market is just a few minutes away from my hotel. Walking along the main road to the end, you'll find stalls lined up along the street selling fresh vegetables, fruits, a variety of fresh flowers which are especially abundant, as well as lively fresh ducks and geese.
What I never miss is sitting down to eat pho and bun at a roadside stall in this market. The rich, authentic flavors are unforgettable. I watched locals riding bicycles to shop while sipping hot soup, witnessing the simple and warm lifestyle of Thái Nguyên people. This was a moment where I truly felt the happiness of traveling.
Signature Dish That Impressed Me: Roasted Duck Stuffed with Mắc Mật Leaves
When it comes to food I must praise in this province, I highly recommend the unique roasted duck of Thái Nguyên, which is roasted duck stuffed with Mắc Mật leaves. These leaves originate from southern China and northern Vietnam, as well as Nan Province in Thailand.
I ordered a large roasted duck stuffed with Mắc Mật leaves at a famous restaurant in town. When I bit into it, the aroma of the Mắc Mật leaves infused in the duck meat gave it a rich flavor and a perfect herbal fragrance. Eating it with hot steamed rice and the restaurant's special dipping sauce is something I, Mr.Hotsia, will never forget. It makes me want to come back many times or even try making it at home.

Atmosphere and Food Choices in the City
Thái Nguyên is a city with rather hot and humid weather and quite a few flies. However, as a large city with a dense population, there are many restaurants and refreshing cafes, especially near the hotel where I stayed, such as Victory Hotel, which has a restaurant on the upper floor.
The food here is not made fresh to order but prepared in advance and served, so sometimes the food may be a bit cold. However, the atmosphere on the 11th floor of the hotel greatly enhances the enjoyment. I chose to have lunch here to avoid the intense city heat. For dinner, I did not miss having a full meal of large roasted duck with hot steamed rice ordered from a famous local restaurant.
There are also two or three small fresh coffee shops in town that I tried. I really liked the strong taste and fragrant aroma of the fresh coffee here. It was a great spot to recharge after walking under the hot sun.
Authentic Vietnamese Breakfast in Thái Nguyên
If you want to experience a truly local breakfast style, I recommend walking the morning market and grabbing simple foods like pho or bun sold along the roadside. Sometimes you will also see banh mi sold at street corners, which is a quick and filling breakfast.
Having breakfast like this in the morning market atmosphere made me, Mr.Hotsia, feel like I was part of the real daily life of Thái Nguyên people. Besides the delicious food, I also got to see the simple and friendly lifestyle of the locals here.
