Bun Vietnamese Noodle Soup in Thái Nguyên: Street Food That mr.hotsia Must Try

Speaking of the cityThái Nguyêna province located in the Northeast of Vietnam and an educational center with 21 universities. I, mr.hotsia, must say that besides its prominence in education and tea industry, another incredible charm of this city isBun Vietnamese Noodle Soupor traditional style noodles sold along the streets in the morning market.

I had the chance to stroll aroundThái Nguyên Morning Marketwhich is not far from my accommodation at Victory Hotel. The atmosphere here is lively with people riding bicycles selling fresh and dried goods, as well as an unusually large variety of flowers. I passed by a noodle shop where the fragrant broth aroma floated in the air. The noodles here are called "Bun," which are beef or pork noodles with chewy soft noodles and a rich, uniquely flavorful broth.

The Bun noodles here are made from rice flour, with a perfect chewy texture. The broth is simmered with pork bones and Northern Vietnamese spices, giving it a fragrant aroma and a mellow taste different from the pho we know from Central or Southern Vietnam. I ordered a bowl with fresh herbs, basil leaves, bean sprouts, and a small wedge of lime to add flavor. Eating while watching the market life gave a very authentic feeling.

How to Get There and the Atmosphere in Thái Nguyên City

Thái Nguyên is about 80 kilometers from Hanoi and is easily accessible by train or minibus from Hanoi to the city center. I chose to take the train to Thái Nguyên station because I wanted to experience the slow suburban atmosphere and see the famous mountains and tea plantations of this province.Thái Nguyên Provinceis a producer of high-quality tea recognized as the best in Vietnam. I recommend trying local tea while walking around the city.

The city center is full of shops and street food stalls, especially noodle shops selling Bun and Pho from early morning until late morning. The morning market is especially bustling. You will see locals riding bicycles selling fresh produce and fruits, as well as fresh ducks and geese laid out along the street. This is a scene that mr.hotsia really likes because it is unlike markets in big cities.

The Story of Bun Noodle Soup Flavor: An Unforgettable Taste

After tasting the Bun Vietnamese noodle soup here, I felt the flavor was deeper and more authentic than anywhere else I've tried. The chewy noodles and clear but rich broth made every bite full of care and the wisdom of the local people in this province.

Not only the noodles are interesting, but I also tried other famous dishes in this city such as roasted duck stuffed with Chinese star anise leaves, an herb that adds an incredible aroma and unique flavor to the roasted duck (read more atRoasted Duck Stuffed with Chinese Star Anise Leaves)

Recommended Accommodation and Dining in Thái Nguyên City

For those who want to stay in the city center, I recommend choosing hotels on the main street like Victory Hotel where I stayed. It is convenient, close to the morning market and many street food stalls. The price is affordable, about 600 baht per night, with air conditioning and internet available. Although there are occasional disconnections, it is acceptable for budget travel.

For breakfast, I recommend walking to the morning market and ordering Bun or Pho while watching the local lifestyle. If you want to try Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), it is easy to find at street stalls. For dinner, if you want a hearty meal, I suggest roasted duck stuffed with Chinese star anise leaves served with hot steamed rice and a special dipping sauce provided by the restaurant. It will be an unforgettable meal.
