Hotels in Yen Bai: Comfortable accommodations in the heart of a small northern Vietnamese town

Hello dear readers, I am mr.hotsia and had the opportunity to visitYen Baiin northern Vietnam and want to share my firsthand experience about accommodations in this town. If you are planning to visit Yen Bai, I believe this accommodation information will be very helpful.

First, I must say that Yen Bai is a small town with its own unique charm, different from big cities like Hanoi or Sapa. It remains peaceful and has a simple local lifestyle. Walking around the town, I found that the number of hotels in the city center is not as many as expected—only about 4 places serve tourists.

For me, the accommodation I chose was “Thuong Mai Hotel Yenbai,” located directly oppositeYen Bai train stationwhich is an excellent location because it is convenient whether you arrive by train or bus. This spot is truly the heart of the town. The hotel looks simple but is clean and offers good service. What I liked most was the very fast internet.

Fast internet in a small town you might not expect

If you like to use the internet or work online while traveling, listen carefully. Yen Bai has very high internet speeds. I tested upload and download speeds at “Thuong Mai Hotel Yenbai” and got an upload speed of up to 10 Mbps, which is surprisingly fast for such a small town. This is a big advantage that allowed me to work online continuously without worrying about slow internet like in many other small towns I have visited.

Learn the local language to stay comfortably at your accommodation

During my stay here, I learned a very useful Vietnamese phrase for travelers who don’t want housekeeping to clean the room while they are still working or resting. The phrase I used was"Khong Lam Sat Fom"which means “Do not clean the room.” I used this phrase to tell the housekeeper when I had my computer set up working in the room and didn’t want to be disturbed. This little knowledge made my stay much smoother.

Walking around Yen Bai city with an overview of accommodations and atmosphere

Speaking of accommodations in Yen Bai, the overall atmosphere of this town is a charm rarely found in big cities. Most hotels are located in the city center, near the train station and market.Yen Bai marketwhere I often had breakfast because they serve simple morning meals like fried tofu, banh mi, and Vietnamese coffee with a smooth taste—perfect to start the day before going out to explore.

Another thing I was impressed by was the town’s quietness. Although it’s small, it is calm and not chaotic like other famous tourist towns. Here you can experience the real local lifestyle and also walk from the hotel to explore street food stalls or stroll through the flower market, which has many beautiful cold-climate flowers to see.

Eating and traveling experiences in Yen Bai

After settling into my accommodation, I usually spent time exploring around the hotel and train station, which is very convenient for travelers arriving by train.Yen Bai train stationis a central point that made it easy for me to travel to other cities like Sapa or Hanoi. The train service here is good and clean. Although buying tickets can be difficult for those who don’t speak Vietnamese, I used gestures and wrote down the times I wanted on paper, which helped a lot.

Yen Bai’s food is also distinctive in its own way. I once tried grilled duck at a roadside stall between the bus station and train station. This place has no seating; you have to take the food back to the hotel. The taste was smooth and the price was very reasonable. If you want extra rice, you need to say "Kerm Sod," which I also learned from local people.

If you are looking for a small town with peace, simple lifestyle, and fast internet for work, “Yen Bai” is a great choice to experience. Accommodations like “Thuong Mai Hotel Yenbai” are good options because they are located in the city center, next to the train station, convenient for travel, and fully equipped with necessary amenities.
