Travel Vietnam, Visit Dalat, Ethnic Minority Performances
Ethnic Minority Performances http://www.hotsia.com > Visit Dalat > Ethnic Minority Performances During the daytime, I bought a tour to visit a hill tribe village where people live in long houses. I once got to know the villagers in Dak Jung city, where one house accommodates about 100 people, and it is still like that today. In the eastern part of Laos and western Vietnam, on the central highlands, many ethnic minorities have lived for a long time.

You can notice from the village or province names starting with 'Dak', such as Dak Jung (Laos) and Dak Lak (Vietnam), that 'Dak' means water. This gives an overall picture of the ethnic minorities' settlements in this area. However, in the areas of Vietnam I toured, there are no longer long houses to be seen. I plan to revisit Dak Jung in Sekong Province, Laos, to experience the ethnic minority lifestyle again.
At night, I bought a tour ticket to watch an ethnic minority performance. If I remember correctly, the tour cost about 300-400 baht. The show is about 10 kilometers outside the city, starting around 7:30 PM and ending around 9:30 PM. On the day I visited, there were no foreign tourists, only Vietnamese. Free rice wine is served here, along with grilled food. The performance takes place around a bonfire with ethnic minority dances and invites tourists from various provinces.
Tourists are invited to join games and dance around the bonfire together. Both Vietnamese men and women participate fully, showing affection by carrying each other, riding on backs, and even cheek kissing, even if they don't know each other well. It's a fun part of the performance and no one minds. Unfortunately, the lighting was a bit dim, so my photos and videos came out a little dark. mr.hotsia March 2012 Mr. Hotsia recommends accommodations in Dalat city if you want to book hotels in Dalat.
