This is not ordinary coffee; it is weasel coffee, known worldwide as weasel coffee (weasel coffee or Kopi Luwak). It did not originate in Vietnam. Kopi Luwak originated in Indonesia about 200 years ago. Initially, the weasel ate ripe coffee beans and excreted them. The local Indonesian people collected, roasted, and ground these beans and discovered the deliciousness of weasel coffee (some species call it civet coffee). Since then, weasel coffee has become famous worldwide.
I know that in Thailand, weasel coffee costs about 1,500 baht per cup. Some shops may sell it for 200-300 baht, but in Vietnam where I tasted it at the source, it was only 75 baht per cup. I tasted it and found the weasel coffee very smooth and delicious. To be sure, if you drink several cups, you can easily tell which cup is the real one. The coffee flavor is very distinctive. At the shop I visited, they kept weasels behind the store and showed samples of weasel droppings. Their droppings come out hard and long.
The droppings are densely packed with coffee beans. You must understand that ripe coffee cherries are sweet and delicious, but the hard beans are inside. That is why the weasel likes to eat them. I don't think it eats the part containing caffeine because I saw many weasels sleeping comfortably behind the shop. Otherwise, they would be wide awake all day and night from consuming so much coffee.
