Sapa Travel Information http://www.hotsia.com > Travel Sapa > Sapa Travel Information Sapa is located in northern Vietnam, not far from the Chinese border. In the past, when the French were still in this region, they used this place as a resort because the weather is cool all year round. In summer, in April when I visited, the temperature was only 18 degrees Celsius. The town looks clean and beautiful with buildings that make you hardly believe this is Sapa; it looks more like Europe. This makes Sapa a world-famous tourist destination.
And for Thai people, Sapa is not far away. Why not visit at least once? The highlight of visiting Sapa is the beautiful terraced rice fields throughout the valleys. There are many hill tribes in Sapa, Vietnam, which makes walking around the town feel very diverse. For Thai visitors, another highlight is "Visiting the Thai valley in Sapa," where Tai people migrated from the same original area as Thailand. Sapa also has the charming Sapa Market and the colorful Bac Ha hill tribe market. There are also hill tribe villages.
Cat Cat village has waterfalls. Do not come to Sapa in winter as it is very cold and not enjoyable, and you will miss the beautiful views of the terraced rice fields, which are the main attraction. I think visiting Sapa in summer works well with beautiful views and not too cold weather, but it depends on personal preference. I myself plan to visit Sapa again in winter to see how cold it really is. The recommended way to travel in Sapa by Mr.Hotsia is to rent a motorcycle for 120 baht per day and ride to Cat Cat village.
It doesn't take much time because it is similar to the Hmong villages in Thailand. Then ride to visit the Tai village, which is about 20 kilometers from Sapa town. You can ask for maps of villages and tourist spots from the hotel you stay at. I recommend SON HA Hotel, which is clean, provides maps, and has friendly owners. Renting a motorcycle from the roadside without a map is not advisable. Also, motorcycle rental here does not include insurance for accidents, so you must be very careful.
Motorcycle touring can take 1-2 days depending on how much time you have. Afterwards, you can walk around Sapa town, which is lively both day and night. Sapa has a hill tribe market on Saturdays, and Bac Ha market is on Sundays, but this does not mean there are no markets on other days; they exist but are less crowded. Bac Ha market is about 70 kilometers from Sapa towards Lao Cai. Sapa to Lao Cai is 35 kilometers, and Lao Cai to Bac Ha is another 35 kilometers.
Approximately. Lao Cai is a city with a train to Hanoi, near the Chinese border. It is very developed with very fast internet. Traveling to Sapa, if you follow my route, is via Chiang Khong, crossing to Huay Sai, then taking a bus to Udomxay city. Stay one night in Udomxay, then go to Muang Khua the next day. Stay one night in Muang Khua and then take a bus to Dien Bien Phu early the next morning for 1-2 days because Dien Bien Phu is a Tai Dam city worth visiting.
Then take a bus from Dien Bien Phu to Sapa, departing in the morning and arriving in the afternoon (travel from Dien Bien Phu to Sapa). Alternatively, you can take a comfortable sleeper train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, then a bus from Lao Cai to Dien Bien Phu; buses run regularly. Or buy a tour from Hanoi to Sapa, which includes accommodation, train, and a hill tribe guide, which is convenient. Traveling to Hanoi can also be done by sleeper bus from Vientiane to Hanoi.
The bus fare is about less than 1,000 baht per person. The bus departs in the evening and arrives in Hanoi in the afternoon. Besides sleeper buses, there are also regular buses that are cheap but tough; many tourists have said so, though I have only taken sleeper buses. The tough part is that people sleep anywhere possible. Flying from Thailand to Hanoi is good and convenient for those with more money. You can book flights, hotels in Hanoi, and accommodation in Sapa through websites. This way, you will have comfortable lodging upon arrival.
There are guesthouses and hotels starting from 7 USD and up. You need to check and choose carefully as some places are not very clean. Be patient and look at several options. The place I stayed at, as mentioned, is SON HA hotel. Accommodations in Sapa do not fill up easily. Many new places are opening, but if you want a good and clean place, booking in advance is recommended. Click here to book hotels in Sapa. Regarding food in Sapa, restaurants in tourist areas are expensive because they cater to tourists.
I recommend walking around the Sapa lake area where there are many reasonably priced restaurants. Both Vietnamese locals and tourists eat there. Or try the restaurants near the open-air market where hill tribes sell goods; the food there is delicious and affordable.
