Vung Tau seaside fish pier Vung Tau night fish market Vietnamese fried oyster at Dang Vung Tau restaurant Banh (Banh Khot) Banh Khot pronounced approximately 'Bun Kot' is a signature dish of Ba Ria Vung Tau Province. The highlight is at Vung Tau where Vietnamese locals and tourists from Vietnam and abroad must try this Vietnamese Banh Khot at Vung Tau. Banh Khot is the city's signature dish that everyone must try. If you don't come, it means you haven't truly been to Vung Tau.
I'm not joking, it's true. I recommend the shop next to my accommodation, Nha Nghi Cat Phuong, located on 7A Nguyen Truong To street. The shop I ate at is diagonally opposite the hotel or click the coordinates above the photo. Banh Khot is a fried rice flour cake with shrimp, similar to Thai Khanom Krok mixed with fried oysters. The batter is made from rice flour. When frying, shrimp is added and served with fresh vegetables, fresh chili, and shrimp paste sauce. Preparing the batter is the most important step.
The rice flour batter recipe is a secret of each shop. Banh Khot uses fresh medium-sized freshwater shrimp peeled. When frying, the cooked shrimp is sprinkled with red shrimp powder. When eating, there is shrimp paste sauce made from fish sauce, shrimp, and tomato with a little lime, served with thinly sliced green papaya and fresh vegetables. I enjoyed this shop very much. I liked the big shrimp. It’s similar to fried oysters but with crispy batter, fragrant seasoning, and eaten with fresh vegetables for nutritional value. This dish sells for 60 baht per set.
I recommend eating more than one set because it’s very delicious. When I went, I was running low on money so I only ate one set. Also, the shop to eat at must be the same as mine because I understand it’s the most famous in Vung Tau. Foreign tourists and Vietnamese people line up to eat here. While waiting, you can watch and take photos of the frying process; they don’t mind.
