Satisfy Your Craving with Khmer Noodles in Kampot Province, Cambodia

When talking about Kampot Province in Cambodia, many might think of Kampot durian or the famous black pepper. But for mr.hotsia, one thing you must not miss is tasting authentic Khmer noodles here. I recently had the chance to explore and enjoy Khmer noodles in Kampot, and I was truly impressed and want to share the details with you.

Kampot is a peaceful province located in the southeast of Cambodia, not far from Kep Province by the sea. I stayed here for three nights, giving me plenty of time to experience the local lifestyle.Kampot ProvinceThe Chhou River flows through the center of the town, and the riverside atmosphere adds charm to evening walks and food hunting.

Markets and Khmer Noodle Shops in Kampot

For Khmer noodles in Kampot, I found only a few excellent shops selling truly traditional noodles. Most of these shops open from morning until late afternoon, and some have regular local customers who come continuously. The quality and flavor of Khmer noodles here focus on freshness, rich broth, and the fragrant aroma of authentic Khmer spices and herbs.

I like to order both dry and soup noodles, usually served with marinated pork or chicken, crispy pork, and homemade meatballs. The broth has a sweet and tender flavor from simmering bones and special spices, and the noodles are perfectly chewy and soft. Some shops also offer fresh vegetables and bean sprouts to add as you like.

As I have mentioned before inNight Markets and Smoothie Shops in KampotThe atmosphere here is not as hectic as in big cities but full of warm and friendly people. If you like spicy Thai-style flavors, Khmer noodles in Kampot come with Kampot black pepper for you to add to taste. mr.hotsia highly recommends trying the famous black pepper from this province to enhance the flavor.Kampot Black PepperVery fragrant and intensely flavorful, it amazingly enhances the richness of the noodles.

Lifestyle and Travel in Kampot

Getting to Kampot is easy. I traveled from Phnom Penh by air-conditioned bus, which takes about 4-5 hours. There are two daily departures, morning and afternoon. Booking tickets is very convenient and can be done through hotels in Phnom Penh. Upon arrival in Kampot, you will find a peaceful and safe town perfect for strolling and tasting local food.

Sometimes I choose to ride a tuk-tuk to noodle spots recommended by locals, many of whom speak some Thai, making communication smooth and providing great local food tips.

Beyond Noodles: Must-Visit Places and Foods in Kampot

After enjoying Khmer noodles, I usually take a walk along the Kampot riverside or visitPhnom Chhnork Cavewhich is not far from the town. The cave atmosphere and the scenic route through rural villages are beautiful and peaceful, offering a great rest for the eyes and soul.

If you are a foodie like me, you must not missKampot Durianwhich is nationally famous for its sweet and creamy taste. A special feature is the red spot on the durian stem for easy identification. I tried the Monthong durian here, and the taste was almost identical to back home, fresh and very fragrant.

The night market at the Durian Monument in Kampot town is another spot I recommend for tasting local foods like delicious chicken rice porridge and fresh fruit smoothies, which sometimes include egg yolk blended in (if you don’t like egg, be sure to tell them). The atmosphere is lively with a variety of light foods to choose from.Night Food Stalls in Kampotare one of the dining experiences mr.hotsia enjoys the most.
