Bokor Mountains, Kampot Province, Cambodia: Experience authentic nature and a truly different way of life

Anyone who has the chance to travel to Kampot Province, Cambodia, will likely feel like me, mr.hotsia, that this is a peaceful, shady province full of the charm of nature that remains pure. Bokor Mountains, also known as Bokor Mountains, is one of the most impressive tourist spots in Kampot because it is not just an ordinary peak but is full of history and an atmosphere that changes with the seasons.

Bokor is located not far from Kampot town, about a 1-hour drive. The route takes you up a mountain filled with lush green forest and cool weather all year round, which is clearly different from the usual hot city atmosphere of Cambodia. Here, there are old abandoned hotels and ancient churches that tell fascinating stories from the French colonial era.

On the way up Bokor, I, mr.hotsia, recommend preparing your camera because the views on both sides are breathtaking, with mist floating over the forest below and mountain ranges stretching as far as the eye can see. It’s an experience I have never encountered in many countries I have visited.

Local Life and Night Market in Kampot Town

After visiting Bokor, I, mr.hotsia, returned to Kampot town, a province where foreign tourists choose to relax and truly experience local life. There is a night market near the Durian Monument that I enjoy strolling through at night. This market is different from typical night markets because most food stalls focus on selling rice porridge, desserts, and smoothies. The flavors here are simple but feel warm, like eating at a friend’s home.

Interestingly, the Kampot black pepper I, mr.hotsia, tried adding to chicken rice porridge at this market was fragrant and rich, worth sharing. Kampot black pepper is world-renowned, dating back to when the French used it, and it remains an essential ingredient in authentic local dishes.Read more about Kampot PepperSure thing

The dessert I was impressed with is the durian smoothie, a must-try drink for anyone visiting Kampot. It’s not just any durian but the famous Monthong variety of the province. The taste is sweeter, creamier, and richer than what I’ve had in Thailand. Durian lovers must not miss it.Read about Kampot Durianto get to know this special fruit more deeply

Easy and Safe Travel: How to Get to Kampot?

For those interested in experiencing Kampot like me, mr.hotsia, traveling here is not difficult. From Phnom Penh, there are two daily air-conditioned buses, morning and afternoon. It takes about 4-5 hours to reach Kampot town safely, comfortably, and affordably. Tickets can be purchased at hotels in Phnom Penh or booked in advance easily.

Once in Kampot, don’t forget to hire a tuk-tuk to explore the town and nearby attractions. However, be cautious of drivers who might take you to caves or other places not on the itinerary, such as the case of Phnom Chanok Cave that I, mr.hotsia, have mentioned in an article.Phnom Chanok Cave, Kampot ProvinceBecause sometimes drivers take visitors to uninteresting caves instead of Phnom Chanok Cave, which has historical significance and beautiful views.

Summary of Experience and Advice from mr.hotsia

Kampot is a province I really like because of its tranquility, natural beauty, and authentic local lifestyle. Whether it’s walking along the Kampot River, tasting local food at the night market, or going up to see the view at Bokor, everything makes you feel close to Cambodia in a way different from big cities like Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.

If anyone wants to fully experience Kampot, I recommend staying for about 3 nights to explore pepper farms, durian orchards, and take a boat trip to watch the sunset on the Kampot River.Boat Trip to Watch the Sunset on the Kampot Riveris another activity I really enjoy.

Finally, don’t forget to prepare your heart to receive a different experience and embrace the warm and friendly Khmer culture genuinely. Kampot is not just an ordinary province but a place I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to experience at least once in their lifetime.
