There are many durian varieties in Kampot Province. From what I heard from the sellers, the only variety I know is Monthong. The durian I ate was Monthong. I think it’s quite similar to our Monthong, no difference. But the durian I ate at the Nam Pan Durian Shake shop tasted different; it was rich and sweet, very satisfying. So I’m not sure which variety exactly to eat. Kampot durians are sold widely. If the fruit has a red label on the stem, that means it’s Kampot durian.
Choose fruits that are not overly ripe. They are sold in many provinces of Cambodia. If you travel to Kep or Kampot Province, not all fruits have the stem painted. If you don’t visit the orchard, you can eat them at the night market where there are fruit stalls selling at 100 per kilogram. mr.hotsia January 2012 mr.hotsia recommends hotels in Kampot.
