I read in a travel book that before the war, French restaurants used to have black pepper from Kampot Province, Cambodia, on their tables. This means Kampot black pepper has been famous for a long time. I’m not sure if the French would say Thai pepper tastes better. When I visited Kampot, at a rice porridge restaurant, they had bottles of Kampot pepper for customers to season their food. Feel free to add as much as you like. It’s fragrant and truly delicious, especially with hot rice porridge.
At my accommodation, whatever I ordered, I added Kampot pepper and everything tasted great. While touring Kampot, I bought a one-day tour to visit pepper plantations for 10 USD. The tour included visits to Kampot pepper gardens, durian plantations, and mango orchards.
