The city is divided by the Yangtze River flowing through it, splitting the city into two parts. The river flows from south to north through Wuhan, so the city is divided into east and west sides. I recommend staying in the downtown west side because it is lively, easy to walk around, has plenty of food options, and a pedestrian street. The train station is also on the west side. The east side, or the area towards the high-speed rail station, has fewer residential buildings and features the Yellow Crane Tower as a tourist attraction.
You may also stay in hotels in this area, but they should be close to the metro station because Wuhan now has a metro line crossing the Yangtze River. It makes traveling anywhere in the city easy. Rooms can accommodate an extra bed for three people. I got a map of Wuhan showing the hotel location; I was lucky to find it near the Wuhan High-Speed Rail Station. Traveling in China is difficult due to the language barrier since most Chinese do not speak English. We need to learn some Chinese; otherwise, traveling is impossible.
I recommend clearly checking the locations you want to visit, the hotel you will stay at, and booking online.
