It is an important river port city and one of the fastest growing cities in India, located on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River. It is the capital city of Assam State and the seat of the Assam State government. Guwahati lies between the Brahmaputra River and the foothills of the Shillong Plateau. There is an international airport to the west. I traveled by airline from Siliguri heading to Guwahati city, stayed in Guwahati for one night, and traveled to Dibrugarh the next day. I stayed at a hotel called Hotel.
It is a hotel located in the city center, safe, convenient for walking, with attentive staff and a restaurant opposite. For transportation in this city, I recommend using Uber Taxi. Buy an Indian SIM card and use that SIM card to register for Uber taxi. Then wherever you go, use the Uber app on your phone to call a taxi. This will get you cheaper prices than hailing taxis on the street, which often overcharge. In any city, there is a chance of being overcharged.
