Namchi Town, Sikkim State, India - Homestay with Local Villagers in Namchi, South Sikkim, India
Homestay with Local Villagers in Namchi, South Sikkim, India http://www.hotsia.com > Namchi Town, Sikkim State, India > Homestay with Local Villagers in Namchi, South Sikkim, India Travel information for Sikkim State (SIKKIM), India (INDIA) Mr. Hotsia recommends hotels in Sikkim Siliguri. I traveled from Gangtok to stay in Namchi for 4 nights, then visited other towns and returned to stay one more night in Namchi before heading back to Siliguri to continue to Assam.

In Namchi, I stayed 2 nights at a hotel and the rest with genuine local villagers. It was not a commercial homestay, but I asked to stay with them to experience the authentic Nepali atmosphere. The family I stayed with spoke Nepali. They live on a mountain with cool weather all year round and beautiful views. Their kitchen is made of clay. I watched them prepare traditional Nepali food and ate with my hands together with them. In the morning, they gather to drink local tea made from fresh cow's milk. The wife milks the cow to boil milk for tea and to prepare other dishes.
For the locals, tea is served in the morning, breakfast at 9:00 AM, lunch at 3:00 PM, and dinner around 8-9 PM. I was deeply impressed by this household and its people. They kindly let me stay, wear their traditional clothes, took me sightseeing around Namchi, and taught me to cook local dishes like MoMo. I witnessed cow milking, local liquor distillation, drank Utumba (millet liquor), observed traditional Nepali spirit worship, and much more. I encourage friends to watch the video clip.
This is a rare experience, even many Indians rarely get to see such scenes. Mr. Hotsia - Travel with Passion
