Namchi City, Sikkim State, India - Tumba, A Traditional Nepali Millet Wine
Tumba, A Traditional Nepali Millet Wine http://www.hotsia.com > Namchi City, Sikkim State, India > Tumba, A Traditional Nepali Millet Wine Travel information about Sikkim State (SIKKIM), India (INDIA) Mr. Hotsia recommends hotels in Sikkim Siliguri. Tumba is a millet wine enjoyed by the Nepali people. The joy of traveling is trying new and unique foods and drinks. Tumba is the millet wine of the Nepali community.

It is made from millet. When drinking, it is scooped into a bamboo tube with a small bamboo straw for each person to sip individually, not sharing the same tube. The taste of Tumba is slightly sour but very fragrant. It does not cause intoxication like regular alcohol; I would compare it to fruit wine. The perfect snack to accompany Tumba is Nepali-style spicy meat salad. At the new rice festival where I stayed, guests were given a bamboo tube of Tumba each. Warm water was added repeatedly as the wine ran out, refilled three or four times.
Once everyone is pleasantly tipsy, they sing Nepali songs together, creating a truly joyful atmosphere. When guests are ready to leave, they prepare fire torches made from branches to safely guide them home. Mr. Hotsia - Travel with Passion.
