Welcome to AEC Vientiane LAOS
Hello, I'm mr.hotsia. Today, I'll take everyone for a walk in the capital city of Laos that many might overlook, which is “Vientiane.” A city that seems quiet but is full of the charm of life along the Mekong River and a culture that amazingly preserves its traditions.
Having traveled here many times, Vientiane for me is not just an ordinary capital city but a perfect resting point after adventures in other famous and tourist-packed Laotian cities like Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. Vientiane offers a different feeling—warm and friendly like a second home.
Strolling along the Mekong River with the evening atmosphere in Vientiane
What I like most in Vientiane is walking along the Mekong River in the evening. The riverside road in Vientiane has been renovated to be simpler and more comfortable, becoming a popular spot for locals and tourists to exercise, stroll, or even watch the sunset here.
Believe it or not, the sunset in Vientiane is so beautiful that I have to stop and watch. The big, bright red sun reflects on the Mekong’s surface—a memorable scene perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.Traveling in VientianeI recommend renting a bicycle to ride around the city to truly experience the Laotian way of life.
Accommodation and cool coffee shops recommended by mr.hotsia
In Vientiane, I usually stay at Pomprasert Hotel, located near the Fountain Roundabout. It’s a very convenient location with bike rental shops nearby, affordable prices, and includes breakfast. If interested, check details and book throughthis linkto support my AEC travel.
For those who enjoy sipping iced coffee, I recommend theTrue Coffee VientianeThis newly opened shop quickly became a meeting point for tourists and locals alike. The spacious shop has both air-conditioned and open-air seating, perfect for hot days in Vientiane. Sitting here with a coffee while watching people pass by feels like pausing time and absorbing the simple essence of Vientiane.
Authentic breakfast with Vientiane Khao Piak
If you come to Vientiane and don’t try Khao Piak, you’re missing out on a top-notch delicacy. My favorite Khao Piak is from a small unnamed shop near the Cam Khong area, close to Saengdao Minimart. It’s a Laotian rice porridge with pork offal, minced pork, green onions, and cilantro. The flavor is unique and mild, served with raw bean sprouts and seasonings like our local noodle soup but with a truly Laotian taste in every bite.
It’s inexpensive, about 40 baht or 10,000 kip per bowl. Besides Khao Piak, this shop also offers noodle dishes and Laotian coffee, perfect for a local-flavored breakfast.Read more about Vientiane Khao PiakSure
Must-visit attractions in Vientiane
Vientiane may seem quiet, but it has many beautiful and interesting spots that I, mr.hotsia, want to recommend for everyone to experience, such asWat Si SaketAn ancient temple that survived wars and features Buddha statues adorning the temple walls magnificently. It’s also a photo spot many visitors stop by to capture timeless angles.
Also, don’t forget to visitHaw Phra Kaewwhich is an important sacred site in Laos. If you come in the evening, don’t miss theVientiane Night Marketalong the Mekong River. Here you’ll find local products, delicious food, and the warm atmosphere of Laotians at night.
Easy travel, connecting AEC with diverse experiences
Vientiane is located in the heart of ASEAN, serving as a central hub for international travel within the AEC group. Whether you come from Thailand via Chiang Khan or from Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang, Vientiane is a great starting and resting point for exploring Laos.
I once traveled from Luang Prabang by van, taking about 6 hours through beautiful limestone mountains and the Song River. For more travel details about Vang Vieng and this route, you can read atVang Vieng VientianeThank you
Experience life along the Mekong River on the Laotian side
For those who love peace and want to experience real local life, I recommend crossing over to Chanakham town opposite Chiang Khan, Laos. Although a small town, its atmosphere and natural beauty remain pure, perfect for genuine relaxation.
I had the chance to stay overnight there and witnessed the simple life of Laotians, with old temples and community markets still holding traditional charm. If you’re interested in this story, you can read more atChanakham town opposite Chiang KhanThank you
