Pakngum village is located downstream along the Mekong River about 15 kilometers from Pakbeng, past halfway from Pakbeng to Thasuang village. Pakngum is a village without electricity, inhabited by Lao, Hmong, and Khmu people living together but in separate zones. Pakngum means the mouth of the Ngum River flowing into the Mekong River.
This village is truly surrounded by nature. Anyone who visits will never forget it. Visiting this village, I had the chance to explore nearby waterfalls and accidentally discovered a waterfall flowing down a cliff. Climbing up, I realized it was a newly discovered waterfall. Its uniqueness is a limestone waterfall that traps tree roots, creating a beautiful emerald color. It takes about 1-2 hours walking from Pakngum village. Unfortunately, my camera is not waterproof, so I couldn't take beautiful photos.
At Pakngum Homestay, guests stay in local houses separated by family units, eating authentic local food. They cook Mekong River fish, fish larb, duck larb, depending on what we want. We joined the kitchen to try cooking, which was excellent. When I brought friends, they performed a traditional Lao Baisri Su Kwan ceremony for us. It was warm and deeply cultural.
