In the beloved land of brave Lao people, there are still many beautiful girls. Soldiers and staff alike are invited to visit the girls of Xieng Khouang, to visit anytime, whether for a day or more. When the rice fields are green and lush, and the forests and wheat fields cover the hills, everyone says that the girls from our village are truly talented. They are skilled in farming and transportation. The girls of Xieng Khouang have pure hearts, like the cool flowing water of the Nam Ou River. Their voices echo sweetly in the village, those are the girls of the Kone Lon group.
The 12th Battalion, 18th Company trained secretly in military tactics to resist American air raids. Oh, the girls of Xieng Khouang, our village girls, are truly Lao women, brave and worthy descendants of the people. Like swallows flying across Laos, the lovely girls of Xieng Khouang have fair faces, dark eyes, slender necks, and delicate shoulders. They smile brightly without carrying guns, stepping forward on the path to liberate the nation. I traveled to Xieng Khouang determined to photograph the girls there. I met two or three at a coffee shop and in the market where I ate.
So I asked to take their photos to share with you. From my observation, the beauty of Xieng Khouang girls comes from the mix of Hmong, Lao, and possibly some Vietnamese near the border. Border girls are usually lovely. Actually, the song about Xieng Khouang girls symbolizes the city where women fought against America, as Xieng Khouang was the location of a stronghold in the city with leaders' caves and is also a tourist spot.
