Xiang Khouang is a large province in eastern Laos bordering Vietnam. The city I visited is called Muang Pak (Pak means pine tree).

Muang Pak is located at an average altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, resulting in many pine trees. The terrain is mostly mountainous covered with grass, with few large trees. Muang Pak is not far from Phonsavan, the old provincial capital. To get to Muang Pak from Luang Prabang, you must take a bus to Phonsavan first, as I explained in the travel section about getting to Phonsavan (Southern Bus Station Luang Prabang, Explosive City Xiang Khouang).
Muang Pak is a remote town rarely visited by tourists, despite having notable attractions like the Plain of Jars. This makes it an interesting destination for those who enjoy tranquility and authentic Lao nature. Eastern Laos has many Vietnamese and Chinese residents working there, more than Thais, but the friendliness of the Lao people here towards Thais remains wholehearted. Before we head to the Plain of Jars today,
I went to explore the Xiang Khouang morning market to share with you first. After capturing images of the evening market yesterday, the Xiang Khouang market is not very large and is shaded. There are only a few shops selling fish and pork. The market also has breakfast food stalls. The market looks ordinary with nothing special; the highlight of this town is the Explosive City Xiang Khouang. Since collecting travel data in Laos, this is the first time my memory card got full right in the middle of the market.
So I had to bring my computer to transfer photos out. At Xiang Khouang market, uploading pictures attracted quite a bit of local interest. People came to watch, and I took the opportunity to show them photos from other provinces as well. This is another aspect of travel I enjoy. Xiang Khouang Morning Market 2014 is an open-air market along a long road beside the covered market area, which serves as both morning and evening market.
Four years ago, I took you to see the evening market at this same location. If you stay at the hotel, just walk along the main road and turn slightly left to find the Xiang Khouang morning and evening markets. The open-air market sells fresh fish and vegetables caught or gathered by locals, including Hmong and Lao people, focusing on fresh vegetables, fruits, and forest products. Xiang Khouang morning market is interesting and should not be missed when visiting Xiang Khouang. Exciting travel at Xiang Khouang Morning Market (Stay at the same hotel as Mr. Hotsia, click here).
