Hotel recommendations in Kale-Kalaymyo, Chin State, Myanmar by mr.hotsia
If you are planning to travel to Kale-Kalaymyo (Kale; Kalaymyo) in the Sagaing region of Myanmar, I, mr.hotsia, would like to share my firsthand experience from traveling here along with recommendations for good accommodations that I have personally stayed at and was impressed by. This will help other travelers get to know this city more deeply and make it easier to choose a hotel.
Kale-Kalaymyo: A Key Gateway to Chin State and India
Kale-Kalaymyo is an important city in the Sagaing region located in the northwest of Mandalay. This city serves as the gateway to Chin State and a border checkpoint to India about 165 kilometers away. The road is good enough for vehicles to pass each other comfortably. Although some areas still rely mainly on generator power, the electricity system from Hakha and Falam is expanding and expected to be completed soon.
For me, mr.hotsia, on March 17, 2016, I traveled with KBZ airline from Mandalay to Kale-Kalaymyo Airport. The flight was short, about one hour, and the fare was 110 USD. Although not cheap, it was much more convenient than a more than 10-hour bus ride. The flight attendants were professional and friendly, making the journey less tiring.
If you are interested in more travel route details, I have written about it in the articleTraveling to Hakha Citywhich can be conveniently connected from Kale-Kalaymyo.
Accommodations in Kale-Kalaymyo – Majesty Hotel and Taug Za Lat Hotel
This city has about five hotels, but for foreign tourists I have asked, only three provide good support and a certain standard. I would like to recommend two hotels that I have personally experienced and would like to suggest.
Majesty HotelThis hotel is located opposite Kalemyo Airport, just about 1 kilometer to the left. The hotel stands out with a clean outdoor swimming pool and a peaceful atmosphere, suitable for travelers who want to relax after a tiring journey. Importantly, it offers free Wi-Fi and breakfast with local and Western-style options to enjoy.
I, mr.hotsia, like that the staff here can communicate well in English, making check-in and inquiries convenient without needing gestures or sign language. The friendliness of the staff made me feel warm like being at home. Room rates here average about 1000-1500 THB per night, which is reasonable for the comfort and service received.
Another interesting option isTaug Za Lat HotelThis hotel is located right opposite Kale Airport. I have also stayed here. Although there is no swimming pool, the rooms are clean and the air conditioning is very cool. The price is not much different from Majesty Hotel, around 1000-1500 THB per night. Breakfast is provided, and the staff speak English reasonably well.
If you want accommodation closest to the airport, Taug Za Lat Hotel is a suitable choice. But if you prefer a quiet atmosphere with a swimming pool, Majesty Hotel will better meet your needs.
Additional Information and Recommendations from mr.hotsia
Kale-Kalaymyo is a city that does not yet have many foreign tourists, so the atmosphere remains natural and peaceful. I recommend visiting the lively night candle market and experiencing the real lifestyle of the locals. Some areas still use generator electricity, which is a unique experience for those used to big cities.
For those interested in exploring this area, I recommend reading the articleFood and Dining in Kale-Kalaymyowhich I have written to help you get to know the local flavors and menus more deeply, as well asStories of Kale-Kalaymyowhere I share about traveling and local life here.
If you continue traveling to Hakha City in Chin State, you can conveniently plan to take a vehicle from Kale-Kalaymyo and read the travel information I wrote inTraveling to Hakha Cityto prepare for a challenging but rewarding route.
Closing Remarks by mr.hotsia
For me, mr.hotsia, resting in Kale-Kalaymyo was a special experience because I got to experience the real life of Burmese people in the Sagaing region, talk with locals, and stay in hotels with standards and friendly service. Although the accommodation is not very cheap, the comfort and safety are worth it.
I want everyone interested in traveling to Chin State to try staying at Majesty Hotel or Taug Za Lat Hotel, two hotels I am confident will make your trip smoother and more memorable.
See you again with travel stories from Myanmar by mr.hotsia, who will take you to experience the beauty and diverse lifestyles of our neighboring country.
