Life by Indawgyi Lake - A short film by Nong Nene. Traveling in Myanmar today is much faster as roads are nearly all in good condition. The trip from Yangon to the northernmost point like Myitkyina takes only overnight. Indawgyi Lake is located in Kachin State, Myanmar. The bus departs Yangon around 3 PM and arrives at Indawgyi early the next morning.
To reach Indawgyi Lake, take the northern bus line to Myitkyina but get off midway at Hopin. The bus arrives at Hopin early morning where you can stroll the morning market and have breakfast. Then take a local shared truck to Indawgyi Lake, about 1.5 hours travel. Buses run frequently and many people will approach you at the drop-off point. Accommodation in Indawgyi town is limited to one military-run place, with nearby homestays also under military supervision.
I stayed at Indawgyi Mahar Guesthouse in Lone Ton village. No advance booking needed; if full, the military arranges homestay options nearby. The price here is about 300 baht per night for a room with one bed, suitable for one or two people, with a separate bathroom.
