A Short Film by Nong Nene During my motorcycle trip around Indawgyi Lake, renting the bike from my accommodation for 300 baht per day, I passed the eastern side of Indawgyi Lake. I saw a young woman dressed in traditional Kachin attire. I stopped and asked the driver to contact her so I could visit her home and experience their way of life. I had my meals there and witnessed their cooking methods, food presentation, rice cooking, and warm hospitality towards visitors like me.
The villagers living around Indawgyi Lake I saw the most are Shan people, followed by Kachin and Burmese. The Red Shan live on the northern western side of Indawgyi Lake and also on the eastern side. Burmese people are scattered around the lowland villages. The lifestyle of the lakeside villagers at Indawgyi is quite traditional, living without electricity or just beginning to have it.
They make a living by fishing and farming, living a self-sufficient lifestyle raising ducks and chickens. I was deeply impressed by living with the villagers at Indawgyi. mr.hotsia Enjoy the trip 25°8'5"N, 96°22'57"E GPS coordinates (POI) 25°8'6"N, 96°22'51"E The Kachin girl spoke English much better than I did.
