Travel Myanmar Kachin State Journey to Myitkyina
Journey to Myitkyina http://www.hotsia.com > Kachin State > Journey to Myitkyina Information about traveling to Myitkyina, Bhamo, Putao in Kachin State. Mr.Hotsia recommends hotels in Kachin, local Kachin cuisine, traveling to Myitkyina, the source of the Irrawaddy River (Myitsone), Burmese novice ordination (Shinbyu), traveling to Indawgyi, the lifestyle of Indawgyi Lake people, and the short film Nong Nene Ae.

I traveled from Mandalay, leaving at 3:00 PM and arriving in Myitkyina at 10:30 AM. The outbound trip was on a VIP sleeper bus but the seats did not recline fully, only tilted slightly. Many roads are under construction, which has reduced travel time from what used to be around noon. For bus tickets, book at the Fortune Mandalay Hotel and they can arrange both ways, or you can buy tickets yourself, though it is a bit difficult. The return bus leaves at 10:00 AM and arrives in Mandalay at 4:00 AM. Alternatively, you can fly from Yangon or Mandalay; flight costs apply.
From 100 USD and up, there are multiple bus and flight options. Myitkyina is now open for city tours; outside the city, check which towns are accessible by asking the hotel. I stayed at New Light Hotel for 17,000 Kyat per night. There are several hotels in Myitkyina, but I noticed 3-4 near the market that welcome tourists. Flights can be direct from Yangon or Mandalay with similar prices and are a convenient way to travel.
However, flights often sell out, so book tickets in advance. I recommend the website http://www.go-myanmar.com for excellent travel information about Myanmar’s regions and states. Travel in Myanmar is improving with roads being built nationwide, greatly reducing travel times between cities compared to the past when journeys took days. Traveling to Myitkyina is now much more convenient. Mr.Hotsia enjoyed the trip in April 2016, riding a motorbike to the accommodation.
