The short film Nong Nene Ae is located 40 kilometers north and marks the beginning of the Irrawaddy River, formed by the confluence of the Mali Hka and N'Mai Hka rivers. This point is called Myitsone. For traveling to Myitsone on your own, I recommend renting a motorcycle from your hotel, usually about 350 baht per day. Motorcycle riding in Myitkyina requires wearing a helmet at all times. The journey to Myitsone takes about 1 hour covering approximately 40 kilometers.
If you are not in a hurry, you can stop at villages along the way. The Irrawaddy River (also called Ayeyarwady River) is Myanmar's main river, stretching 2,170 kilometers. It originates in the Nujiang area of Yunnan Province near the border with Kachin State, Myanmar. The upper river is called the N'Mai Hka until it joins the Mali Hka at Myitkyina, after which it is called the Irrawaddy River. The name Irrawaddy comes from the name of the goddess Irrawaddy, mother of Irrawata.
The origin of the Irrawaddy River is an important tourist attraction for the people of Myitkyina and Kachin, as well as visitors from other regions and states of Myanmar. Around Myitsone, there are temples and riverside shops. I recommend trying local dishes and you can also swim in the shallow river source. Additionally, Myitsone offers boat rentals for tours around the Irrawaddy River source. Mr.Hotsia Enjoy your trip April 2016 25°28'52"N, 97°25'49"E
