Tourists are not allowed to ride motorcycles in Kengtung; you must have a guide. Even if you enter Kengtung by plane, no visa is required. When I traveled with a guide and rode a motorcycle outside the city, we met Kengtung girls who were about to open a small liquor shop by the rice fields. Young men can sit and drink along the roadside. They said we could follow them to their homes to continue eating, drinking, and chatting. Their parents would not mind. We returned late at night but only to the girl's house.
We did not go beyond their parents' permission. After spending time chatting and hanging out with the Kengtung girls, I traveled to Kad Tao, the guide's village. Some Kengtung girls cooked Shan food for us and showed us around their home, letting us see the lifestyle and culture of the Kengtung people.
