The price if purchased through an agent near the Pagoda Mosque is 98 USD, but the ticket price is 76 USD. The flight was delayed by 1 hour. The flight to Sittwe takes about 65 minutes. I arrived at Sittwe airport around 10:10 a.m. At Sittwe airport, there are brokers selling boat tickets to Mrauk U. The price is about 20 USD per person. A private boat takes 5 hours, but the regular boat departs daily at 7:00 a.m. and costs about 10 USD.
If you have limited time and are traveling in a group of four or more, chartering a private boat seems time-efficient. Traveling to Mrauk U by car takes 3-4 hours, with the bus stopping at Sittwe bus station. Plan your trip carefully; if you intend to return by bus from Mrauk U to Mandalay or Yangon, I recommend staying in Sittwe for one or two nights before continuing to Mrauk U, visiting the Chin village, and returning without backtracking to Sittwe.
Unless you plan to return by plane, you must catch the flight at Sittwe. Along the boat trip, you will see the Rakhine people's way of life fishing along the Kaladan River, which originates in India. You will witness the lifestyle of the people, small houses with roofs made from palm fibers, built temporarily. Their occupation is fishing. Houses are spaced apart but visible throughout the journey to Mrauk U. I arrived near dusk and found accommodation for 25 USD.
I was thinking the price was higher than usual because I happened to meet the driver who took me from the pier; he probably received a commission, which raised the room price. I walked to ask elsewhere and found a room for only 15 USD, air-conditioned. This story teaches us to check prices thoroughly and beware of brokers who can increase our accommodation costs. The pier is about 1 kilometer from Mrauk U market. Taxi fare is 1,000 Kyats. The lifestyle of Mrauk U people in Rakhine State is simple.
There are many beautiful wooden houses. Street vendors sell curry dishes. At night, street lighting is dim. The locals like to carry items on their heads, including water containers shaped like vases, which they use to drink or carry water on their heads.
