Bamboo is assembled into boat shapes and powered by engines to travel down the river. This is the main business for the people living in Mrauk U. They collect bamboo from the river mouth sourced from the upper Long River to sell in Balagu and distribute to other cities in Myanmar. A highlight of the bamboo boats is that meals are prepared and eaten onboard while traveling on the water for a whole week or more than half a month to deliver bamboo from the forest to the city.
