Searching for Sa-Ngae fish at Mae Sariang market, coffee in the most beautiful garden in Thailand, travel Mae La Noi (Hen Tai), haircut and news in Mae Hong Son, hike up Don Kong Mu Pagoda, Jok Saboi in Mae Hong Son, stay in Sri Saeng Dao cinema hotel in Khun Yuam, Kabong Thai Yai snacks, Khun Yuam - Mae Hong Son viewpoint, taste Chinese tea at Santichon village... Pai. Besides the night walking street, trendy shops, or taking photos at Pai in Love coffee shop, Pai town also has a Yunnan Chinese village.

This village has a long history (as I shared below). It is a very interesting and highly recommended tourist spot when visiting Pai. The Yunnan Chinese village is called Santichon. It is an earthen house with a tavern serving steamed buns. If you can't imagine, think of old Chinese martial arts movies where the hero sits eating steamed buns and the heroine, daughter of the sect leader, sits at the next table. The atmosphere of the shop is just like that.

Besides the earthen houses, there is also a beautiful horse stable where you can ride horses at affordable prices. Earthen houses of Yunnan Chinese people, horse stable and horse riding service in Pai. When I visited in October 2010, horse riding with a guide was 300 baht per hour, or a short ride was 50 baht per time. Next to the stable is a coffee shop called 'Cafe Tian', which means coffee shop. Sitting sipping coffee while enjoying the beautiful view from the Yunnan village is truly amazing.

At Santichon village, there is a tea shop offering both tea tasting and take-away options. I tried tasting the tea myself. I just learned the proper way to taste tea here: you should let the evaporated tea steam touch your eyes slightly to refresh them. This is what the tea seller told me. Santichon tea includes many varieties, including the famous Oolong tea. These tea shops offer free tasting; they don't mind if you don't buy. To get to Santichon village, take the route passing Pai Hospital, then towards Wat Nam Hu. Drive a few kilometers past Wat Nam Hu. The total distance from Pai to Santichon village is only 4.5 km.

Returning from Santichon village, exit via Wat Nam Hu to the main road. If you turn right onto the city ring road, this Pai route offers very beautiful views. Feel free to stop and take photos. Enjoy your trip to Pai. Mr.Hotsia encourages you to relax and travel a lot. Don't stress too much about work. More about Pai Yunnan village. Coffee clip at Yunnan village Pai.

History of Santichon village from http://www.pai-yunnan.com

A few Yunnan Chinese families and Yunnan friends, whose wives are Lisu people, invited each other to establish a village around Santichon village (which is why Lisu people also live here). Later, more people migrated here, mainly working in agriculture. The original name of Santichon village was Ban Nam Hu Chin, a satellite village of Ban Nam Hu, consisting of 3 hamlets: Ban Nam Hu Chin, Nam Hu Plain or Tai Yai Nam Hu, and Nam Hu Lisu. Later, Nam Hu Lisu

was separated as Village No. 7 of Wiang Tai subdistrict and renamed Ban Mai Sahasap in 1992. Colonel Panya Thepwan, commander of the 5th Infantry Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, together with soldiers and villagers, helped develop the village, built a mountain water supply system, and renamed the village Santichon, meaning 'River of Peace,' according to the village's location. Thanks for additional information from the Yunnan Pai village website. Horse clip at Santichon village Pai.
