The most beautiful garden coffee in Thailand, travel Mae La Noi (Hern Tai), haircut and news hunting in Mae Hong Son, climb Don Kong Mu Pagoda, Jok Saboi in Mae Hong Son, stay in Sri Saeng Dao cinema in Khun Yuam, Khabong Thai Yai snacks, Khun Yuam - Mae Hong Son viewpoint. Most tourists visiting Pai usually have similar activities starting with stopping at the Pai historical bridge, taking photos, having coffee at a beautiful Pai coffee shop before reaching Pai town, then checking into accommodation.
In the evening, go out to walk the walking street, eat or maybe have a little drink, then end the day by going back to the accommodation and waking up early to take photos. When the sun gets hot, go back to the room. This has become the standard formula for traveling in Pai. Mr.Hotsia recommends 5 activities to do in Pai to make your trip more enjoyable. I came up with this after traveling to many places to help friends not miss out and have more fun in Pai. Rent a motorcycle to explore.
The reason is that if you stay in a car driving around, you won't truly feel Pai's cold weather. Even if you open the window to catch the cold breeze, it's a different kind of chill. Also, traveling in Pai during the high season means many people, and driving everywhere is inconvenient or walking is too far. So I recommend renting a motorcycle to roam around. The rental shop I used is called Aya (AYA), located just past the bus station on the left. The rental price is only 80 baht per day.
The fuel system is trust-based; just make sure you have someone to return the bike. If you're brave and run out of fuel in front of the shop or push it back, it's not a problem. Go see the view of Pai from Mae Yen Pagoda. Many people miss this. Pai is a valley town; imagine looking down from a high place to see the town covered with light mist—it's beautiful. So ride a motorcycle up to Mae Yen Pagoda, heading towards the Pai River route that passes the Pai hot springs.
It's a short ride up to the pagoda. Then look down at Pai town. If you're in a group and can't rent motorcycles, you can drive a car up to the pagoda. If confused, check the Pai travel map here. Listen to music on the walking street until the song ends. One charm of Pai that impresses many is the street music on the walking street. I've seen foreigners taking turns singing; they come to travel like us but want to join the fun by singing and playing guitar busking.
Besides foreigners, there is Poochai, the original busking musician in Thailand, who also performs on the walking street. There's even a policeman singing in uniform, adding great color to Pai. So try listening to someone's song until it finishes; it gives a different flavor.
Distribute income to the local Pai community. This comes from enjoying Pai's natural beauty but it wouldn't be good to spend money only on the walking street and downtown restaurants. Mr.Hotsia likes to buy from small shops farther out to help locals earn income from tourists and feels happy to spread income to the community.
Worship at Wat Nam Hu and sip tea at the Yunnan Chinese village. The last point many haven't done in Pai is visiting Wat Nam Hu. This is a UNESCO site with water flowing from the Buddha's head. It has been verified with many district officials and witnesses. The Buddha's head was sealed and stamped, and when opened, water was found. Visit Wat Nam Hu to pay respects or take holy water home. Then go to Santichon village to see Yunnan Chinese ways and taste Yunnan tea.
