This is the perfect itinerary for visiting Phayao: visit Kwan Phayao and then pay respects to Phra Chao Ton Luang at Sri Khom Kham Temple.

Today I came at night to prevent outside light from entering the ordination hall. The temple lights up brightly, making Phra Chao Ton Luang even more magnificent and sacred. If you come to pay respects, try visiting near dusk like I did. Mr.Hotsia is a third-class royal temple and a model temple located in Phayao municipality. Locals commonly call it "Wat Phra Chao Ong Luang" or "Wat Phra Chao Ton Luang." It houses the largest Buddha statue in Lanna Thai.
The statue has a lap width of 14 meters and a height of 16 meters. Legend says a Naga brought gold to an elderly couple living by Kwan Phayao to build this Buddha statue. The couple took 33 years to complete it (1491 - 1524 AD). Later it was named "Phra Chao Ong Luang." Today, Phra Chao Ong Luang is not only the Buddha statue of Phayao city but also a symbol of the Lanna Thai kingdom. In May,
there is an annual worship event called "Phra Chao Ong Luang Festival in the Eighth Month." Many people from Phayao and nearby provinces join the event. For visitors, it is a tradition that upon arriving in Phayao, the first thing to do is to pay respects to Phra Chao Ong Luang; otherwise, it is considered that you have not truly arrived in Phayao. Additionally, there are many ancient stone inscriptions worth visiting.
