Then drive north to Lom Sak, Lom Kao, just a few kilometers from the city, you will see a very large Buddha statue named "Phra Buddha Maha Thammaracha." This is a replica that was recently completed. When I visited in October 2011, the scaffolding had just been removed. This statue is modeled after the original used in the famous underwater Buddha tradition of Phetchabun Province. The original is a meditation posture Buddha from the Lopburi period, cast in bronze.
The original Buddha has a lap width of 13 inches and a height of 18 inches, enshrined at Wat Trai Phum, Phetchabun Province. It was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII, the king of Angkor Thom. When King Jayavarman VII married Queen Singkhamahadevi, daughter of Phokhun Phamueang, the ruler of Rad city (now Lom Sak District, Phetchabun Province), this became another pride of Phetchabun people. Tourists should not just pass by but stop to visit and pay respects before continuing to Lom Kao.
