Ratchaburi: The Mae Klong River City, Lifestyle, and Nature Worth Experiencing
Hello, I am mr.hotsia. I had the chance to travel to Ratchaburi Province, a province with charm and a diversity of nature and culture far more interesting than many expect. This time, I chose to stay at Amphawa Floating Market as a base, then drove to visit Suan Phueng District and returned to stay overnight in Ratchaburi town at Arya Hotel, a historic hotel operating since 1975, with affordable rates at only 350 baht per night. It also offers wifi, perfect for travelers who want to save money but still enjoy the authentic old-town atmosphere.
Ratchaburi is a city with the large Mae Klong River flowing through its center. In the evening, I took a walk along the Mae Klong riverside and experienced a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. The orange-pink sky reflected on the water surface created a very relaxing scene. Standing there, I thought back to the origin of the Mae Klong River, which starts from the Thanon Thongchai mountain range in Umphang District, Tak Province, an area of dense forest and pristine nature, before joining with the Lam Huai Kha Khaeng from the Huai Kha Khaeng forest in Ban Rai District, Uthai Thani Province, and continuing to the Kwae Noi River in Kanchanaburi Province, where I have personally experienced the beauty of this river.Road to Suan Phueng, RatchaburiThis route connects the natural and cultural stories of each province in an amazing way.
Floating Markets and Community Lifestyles Not to Be Missed
When talking about Ratchaburi, many people think ofSuan Phuengand Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. But this time, I chose to stay at Amphawa Floating Market, which is famous and well-managed. I took a walk in the evening and experienced the local lifestyle that still firmly preserves the traditional floating market atmosphere. Here, it’s not only tourists who come to stroll but also locals and vendors gathering, offering a variety of food, fresh goods, and seafood directly from Mae Klong.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is another destination I recommend, especially in the morning. Here, you can find traditional boats selling antiques and local food to taste, adding flavor and variety to your trip. For those interested in a deep experience of life along the Mae Klong River, I recommend staying atBan Song Thai Homestay by the Mae Klong River, Ban PongI have stayed here before. The atmosphere is wonderful, riverside, with beautifully decorated traditional Thai houses. It’s perfect for those who want to experience nature closely and peacefully.
Suan Phueng: A Relaxing Retreat Amidst the Mountains
Suan Phueng is another place many people talk about. It’s not just an ordinary tourist spot but a place to relax and breathe fresh air on weekends. I have visited Suan Phueng and must say it’s very different from the images seen on social media. It is a district located in the western part of Ratchaburi, with beautiful mountains and nature. There are many stylish resorts and coffee shops perfect for chilling and taking photos.
If you plan to visit Suan Phueng like mr.hotsia, I suggest a weekend trip. Spend the first day visiting Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Tha Kha Floating Market, and Amphawa Floating Market. Then wake up early to travel to Suan Phueng to enjoy the mountain and natural atmosphere, especially if you visitBaan Tian Homor New Land, which has sheep houses and various activities, enhancing your Suan Phueng experience.
What to Eat in Ratchaburi? Try Crab Fried Rice and Grilled Crocodile
Ratchaburi’s food is not only about the atmosphere but also has delicious dishes that mr.hotsia recommends trying. One of them is “Crab Fried Rice,” with a tasty restaurant in the night market in Ratchaburi town. I tried it at night after walking through the night market and must say the taste was so good I went back for seconds. You can see reviews and recipes fromCrab Fried Rice, Ratchaburiwhich I have previously recorded.
Another unusual dish I tried is “Grilled Crocodile.” Many may not be familiar with it, but Ratchaburi has a famous restaurant serving delicious grilled crocodile. I invite you to try it and decide for yourself whether you like it or not. More details can be found atJust see for yourself, I don't want to describe the taste beforehand. Summary of Impressions and Recommendations for Those Wanting to Travel to Ratchaburi
To summarize mr.hotsia’s experience traveling in Ratchaburi, I think this province suits those looking for a relaxing place not far from Bangkok, with beautiful nature, interesting community lifestyles, and must-try delicious food. Ratchaburi is not just Suan Phueng and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market but has many other aspects to explore, including historic hotels in the town like Arya Hotel or traditional Thai house homestays by the Mae Klong River in Ban Pong.
I regret having only one night, but I fully experienced Ratchaburi’s diversity and encourage everyone to travel here themselves to truly feel the atmosphere and lifestyle of this city beyond just photos or ordinary stories.
