Just see for yourself. I don't want to describe the taste beforehand. Grilled crocodile, Ratchaburi — delicious or not depends on your preference.

Road to Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi with real experience from mr.hotsia

When talking about Ratchaburi province, many people probably think of the famous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, or some may have heard of Suan Phueng through social media filled with images of sheep and the Flintstone Stone Man. But for me, mr.hotsia, traveling to Suan Phueng is not just about seeing animals or taking beautiful photos. It is a journey filled with atmosphere, lifestyle, and feelings completely different from the big city.

Starting with the trip, I chose to drive my own car from Bangkok in the morning to avoid traffic jams and stopped by Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Tha Kha Floating Market, which are not far from each other. This point is a good stopover to experience the traditional floating market atmosphere with boats selling goods and local food stalls that made me feel like I was traveling back in time. Then I continued to Amphawa Floating Market to stay overnight. I chose Arya Hotel, located in the center of Ratchaburi city near the Mae Klong River. This old hotel has been open since 1975, with a price of 350 baht per night and wifi available, convenient for those who still want to stay connected online.

In the evening by the Mae Klong River, I enjoyed walking along the riverbank, watching the orange-red sky and small fishing boats slowly returning to shore. This atmosphere reminded me of the origin of the Mae Klong River, which flows through several provinces from the Thanon Thongchai mountain range in Umphang district, Tak province, through the Huai Kha Khaeng forest in Ban Rai district, Uthai Thani province, and merges with the Kwae Noi River from Kanchanaburi province. The journey of this river seems to take us to explore the diverse and vast nature of Thailand.

The route to Suan Phueng and its unique atmosphere

The next morning, I continued my journey to Suan Phueng district, located in the west of Ratchaburi province. This route is a winding road through mountains and lush green meadows, feeling like escaping the big city into peaceful and pure nature.

Suan Phueng is not just about sheep and the Flintstone Stone Man as many people think, but it is also full of beautiful resorts, stylish coffee shops, and natural attractions to fully experience. I recommend stopping by the sheep farm that also offers accommodation or choosing to stay in a resort surrounded by forests and fresh air, perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle and find real relaxation time.

If you have a short time like me, I recommend planning a weekend trip. Depart early from Bangkok, stop by Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Tha Kha Floating Market, then stay overnight at Amphawa Floating Market. On Sunday morning, drive up to Suan Phueng, try local food at roadside restaurants in Suan Phueng town, then return to Bangkok in the evening. It’s a short but worthwhile trip with full relaxation.

Recommended accommodation and lifestyle by the Mae Klong River

If you want to experience the lifestyle by the Mae Klong River in an old traditional Thai house atmosphere, I, mr.hotsia, recommend “Khum Thanthima,” a homestay by the Mae Klong River in Ban Pong, not far from Ratchaburi city. This place consists of two traditional Thai wooden houses decorated with antique items delicately. The atmosphere is peaceful with fish and shrimp in the water to watch closely. The owner, P’Nok Supharerk, an AirAsia pilot, personally takes care of the place, making it feel warm like staying at a local’s home. If anyone is interested in staying here, contact Khun Pee at 081-6992515.

Staying here not only lets you experience nature but also learn the lifestyle of the Mae Klong riverside villagers who still preserve Thai identity beautifully, unlike staying in big hotels that offer convenience but lack this kind of warmth.

Must-try roadside food and snacks

When visiting Ratchaburi and Suan Phueng, the local food you must not miss is “Crab Fried Rice,” which has a unique flavor and uses fresh crab from nearby areas. There is also grilled crocodile, a local specialty in Ratchaburi. For those who have never tried it, I, mr.hotsia, recommend tasting it yourself. Don’t worry about the taste because each restaurant has its own unique style.

For those who love floating markets, don’t miss Amphawa Floating Market and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Here you will experience local food, Thai desserts, and fresh fruits that you won’t find in big cities, making this trip full of deliciousness and fun shopping for souvenirs to take home.
