hotsia kids Summer Break Trip 7/26: Journey to Hue City Vietnamese Food in Hue

Hello, I am mr.hotsia. Today, I will take friends to experience the travel atmosphere of Hue (Huế), the former capital of the Nguyen dynasty in Vietnam. No matter how many times I visit, I always feel excited because of the charm of its ancient culture and local cuisine, which I consider one of the top destinations in my heart. For this trip, I will takehotsia kidsa summer break trip on July 26th. I will share my real experience traveling independently, trying delicious food, strolling around the accommodation area, and fully immersing in the lifestyle of Hue locals.

Journey to Hue: The closeness I love

If anyone wonders where Hue is, it is the main city of Thua Thien-Hue province, located in central Vietnam. What I like most is that it is not far from Thailand. Traveling from Savannakhet to Hue takes only about 9 hours, which is not too tiring for a short trip and allows you to experience authentic Vietnam at a relaxed pace.

Hue is a famous destination because it hasthe old Nguyen dynasty palacewhich is registered as a World Heritage Site. This attracts tourists from all over the world. For this reason, Hue offers a complete experience of culture, history, and diverse cuisine.

Atmosphere and accommodation in Hue: Perfume River Bridge at night

I recommend friends choose accommodation near the Perfume River because it is very convenient, close to Dong Ba Market and the old palace. You can comfortably stroll in the evening without needing to rely on rickshaws or motorbikes.Accommodation in Hueis affordable, with air-conditioned rooms, hot water, and good Wi-Fi for about 300 baht per night. This suits travelers who want comfort and savings.

Especially at night, around 6:00-8:00 PM, the Perfume River Bridge lights up with beautiful colorful lights, creating a very romantic atmosphere. Young Vietnamese couples come to sit by the river, enjoying the view of lights reflecting on the water. I like to sip local beer for less than 10 baht a glass, exchanging experiences with other tourists who also travel here. We share stories and have warm fun together.Night strolls in Hueare another activity not to be missed.

Vietnamese food in Hue: Unique flavors

For me, visiting Hue without trying the local food is a big miss. The food here is not Hanoi-style pho or Hoi An-style noodle soup, but hot noodle soup with thin rice noodles (Mi) that warms your stomach and tastes so delicious you want to finish the bowl, especially in the cool January weather of Hue. I once ate two bowls and felt full and very satisfied. Each bowl costs about 20-30 baht only.

Besides noodles, Vietnamese-style rice with curry is another dish I really like. You can choose pork, fish, or chicken, all at an affordable price of just 20 baht per plate. This allowed me to stay in Hue for several weeks without worrying about expenses. I also tried local desserts similar to Thai sweets made with flour, sago, red beans, and soybeans, topped with coconut milk and syrup, perfectly sweet and creamy. Those who like Thai desserts will surely enjoy this dish.

Important attractions in Hue: More than just the old palace

Of course, the old Nguyen dynasty palace is Hue’s top tourist attraction, but Hue also has other viewpoints and interesting places I like to stroll around, such as Dong Ba Market. This is a large market where most vendors can speak Thai, making shopping easier and more fun. Or you can visitThien Mu Pagodawhich is peaceful and shaded, perfect for photography lovers and those seeking tranquility.

For those interested in history, I recommend visitingthe Khe Sanh battlefieldor the emperor’s tombs surrounded by beautiful nature, as well as the interesting Vinh Moc tunnels.

Walking street and lifestyle along the Perfume River

When talking about strolling in Hue, I must say you should not miss the Perfume River banks. Here, besides enjoying the beautifully colored bridge lights, you also have the chance to see locals selling small items, creating a simple walking street atmosphere, unlike the hustle of big cities. This charm impressed me deeply.

I once sat sipping cold beer while observing the local lifestyle here and found Vietnamese people very friendly and warm, especially when the lights reflect on the water. This makes me want to return to Hue many times.
