Buon Ma Thuot 2016: Journey to the Coffee City of Đắk Lắk with mr.hotsia

The Return VisitBuon Ma ThuotLocally called "Ban Mae Thuot", this 2016 visit for me, mr.hotsia, was clearly a different experience from before. Not just the place, but the lifestyle and the changes in this charming city that never lose their appeal. This time, I chose to stay in the city center instead of nearby accommodations.Coop MartLike before, this allowed me to see the variety of accommodations and shops, as well as truly experience the urban community atmosphere.

Buon Ma Thuot is located in the province ofĐắk Lắkwhich is the capital of Vietnam's Central Highlands and one of the largest and most famous coffee-growing regions in the country. With an elevation of 536 meters above sea level, Buon Ma Thuot enjoys a cool climate ideal for growing high-quality coffee recognized worldwide.

Hotels and Accommodations in Buon Ma Thuot City Center

In the city center of Buon Ma Thuot, there are many hotels that are affordable and offer good service. I chose to stay atMAI ANH hotelwhich is close to Coop Mart, very convenient for travelers wanting to explore the city and experience the local lifestyle. This hotel is near the evening market and a colorful night market with many activities at night.

If you are looking for accommodation in the area where most tourists stay, it is around the central tank monument. There are more than five hotels here with mid-range prices around 500 baht per night, and many local restaurants to try, including delicious nem nuong that I will recommend later.

Buon Ma Thuot Coffee: The Heart of the City and the Spirit of Đắk Lắk People

This isthe true coffee capital of the world.I wandered tasting coffee at various shops just 50 meters apart. Each shop had a different atmosphere; some were beautifully modern, others traditional. But all shared the rich and enticing aroma and flavor of Vietnamese coffee.

I recommended trying coffee at many busy shops, as a full house is a sign of quality. But don't drink more than three cups a day, as Vietnamese coffee is very strong and may cause sleeplessness.

Markets and Lifestyle in Buon Ma Thuot

One of the activities mr.hotsia recommends when visiting Buon Ma Thuot is walking through the markets. Whether it's the morning market near Coop Mart or another city market that may not be outstanding but offers a genuine glimpse into local life.

The evening market or night market is near the central monument. Here, there are many shops and food stalls to try, making it a safe and enjoyable place for nighttime strolls.

Local Food and Must-Try Dishes in Buon Ma Thuot

The food in Buon Ma Thuot clearly reflects the culture of the Central Highlands people. Although there are many coffee shops, main dishes and snacks are equally abundant. Especially a dish I, mr.hotsia, was very impressed with:Authentic Vietnamese Nem Nuongat Nem Thanh Van restaurant located in the city's accommodation area.

The nem nuong here is special with fresh grilled pork and rice paper that doesn't require soaking. Fresh vegetables like starfruit, chives, cucumber, and many side dishes come with a perfectly balanced dipping sauce. One set is enough for two people to enjoy fully. For an interesting breakfast option, I recommend tryingVietnamese Egg Panwith its mild flavor that will energize you for the day ahead.

Additionally, there are street food stalls and a food court in Coop Mart offering a variety of dishes including rice with curry, desserts, and fresh smoothies at affordable prices, perfect for tourists wanting to try local food simply.

Exploring Buon Ma Thuot with mr.hotsia

For traveling in Buon Ma Thuot, I recommend spending two to three days to explore both the city and surrounding communities to experience both the tranquility of nature and the vibrant city life. Especially visiting markets in the morning and evening, tasting coffee and local food, and relaxing in strategically located hotels.
