Mr.Hotsia recommends hotels in Hoi An. Kim or Cam Kim Island is a small island located two kilometers from Hoi An. On this island, Vietnamese locals live and work making furniture for sale and building large boats. I bought a boat ticket for 15 baht. The trip takes only a few minutes. If you buy a tour to My Son, they will also stop at Cam Kim Island. When you arrive at the island, walk a little to the right and you will find the Vietnamese boatyard.
Walk further to the main road and you will find houses where they make furniture for sale. You can stroll and watch them work; they don't mind. I also walked around the back of the island where locals live. Interestingly, this island has many restaurants and comfortable hangouts for young people. It might be a relaxing spot for Hoi An youth escaping the tourist beaches of the old town. The photo above shows a Vietnamese girl wearing a traditional Vietnamese hat.
She is a Vietnamese guide about to take foreign tourists to Cam Kim Island. I took this photo because I liked her Vietnamese hat on a Vietnamese girl; it is truly charming. Mr.Hotsia January 2010.
