But since communication is not as easy as in Laos, I mostly buy tickets through an agency at the hotel where I stay. Then they arrange a vehicle to take me to the bus station, and I board the bus according to the ticket I purchased. This system is the same throughout Cambodia, similar to Vietnam. Actually, in Laos, tourist cities already operate this way. I think it’s convenient for travelers. When traveling in Cambodia—Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Battambang—buying tickets through an agency is easier and more reliable.

Except when I have learned the language well enough to transfer buses myself at the station. I plan to travel in Cambodia a few more times and probably transfer buses myself to avoid paying too much. Phnom Penh, the capital, has buses to various provinces and to countries popular with tourists, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. I took detailed photos of the lower checkpoint showing where you can transfer buses from Phnom Penh. On recent trips, I have sometimes come by boat from Vietnam or from the south. The station I photographed here is the main central station of Phnom Penh.

Not far from here, just a short walk behind is the Sorya Mall, the largest mall in Phnom Penh. I killed time at the Viencen’s restaurant, using free Wi-Fi and enjoying the cool air while waiting for the bus to depart. The station is also adjacent to Phnom Penh’s central market, where there are many very cheap clothes. You can buy souvenirs here—shoulder bags and everything. It’s like Rong Kluea market but I think it’s cheaper. mr.hotsia July 2012 11°34'5.586"N, 104°55'43.242"E GPS coordinates (POI) 11°34'6.156"N, 104°55'12.071"E 11°34'5.964"N, 104°55'11.286"E
