Before Mr.Hotsia traveled solo in Cambodia, I wondered what Cambodians eat, if their food is similar to Thai food, and if it’s hard for Thai tourists to find food.

When I actually arrived, it was very comfortable. Thai and Khmer food are almost 100% similar. There are rice with curry dishes sold roadside for 20-30 baht per plate. There are also packaged foods sold by scoop. So Thai tourists don’t need to worry about food when traveling in Cambodia. Just find a clean restaurant and order as much as you want for under 100 baht—I’ve tried it. Or if you want to eat very cheaply, it’s no more than 30 baht. Khmer food differs a bit in places like Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and Battambang.
From my travels, they don’t eat sticky rice. Even though grilled chicken and papaya salad are available, they eat them only with regular rice. Mr.Hotsia December 2011. On my last three trips around Cambodia provinces, I learned that Khmer food is very similar to Thai food. Each city prefers different dishes—for example, Kampong Chhnang likes grilled catfish, while northern areas near Laos prefer other dishes. But Thai food can be found all over Cambodia.
